5 years ago today, I got access to the store for the first time.
The original plan was May, but COVID had other ideas, so June 1 became the day we finally got into the space.
Since then, we’ve gone from a tiny empty room, to a packed tiny room, to almost doubling in size.
This has been such a fun business to operate. Retail can be tough, but it’s amazing how great it can be when you have amazing customers.
People sometimes ask how a little board game store makes sense.
The honest answer is: it makes sense because I love it.
I love the games, I love the customers, I love seeing people find something they’re excited to bring home, and I love that this tiny room has become part of so many people’s hobbies, gifts, game nights, and traditions.
We’ve had young customers come in and say, “I’d love to work here someday,” and then actually make it happen. My son is 11 now and says he wants to work here too, so I guess we need at least another 5 years.
In a funny bit of timing, our next order will also be our 5,000th order.
No big anniversary sale today. I just wanted to mark the day and say thank you.
If you’ve bought a game, picked up an order, followed along, told someone about us, or supported WiredVillage Boardgames in any way, thank you.
