I’ve been sitting in this exact spot every morning for the past two weeks. One of my New Year’s resolutions was to do something for myself every morning. So I’m up at 4:50am, rolling out my yoga mat for at least 20 minutes.

At the end of each session, I’m lying there staring at the very real mountain of product waiting to be listed… and honestly? It’s overwhelming.

I feel stressed because I worry I’m letting my consignors down by not getting items listed fast enough. I feel anxious because I’m taking time for myself when there’s so much work staring me in the face. It’s a constant tug-of-war.

As you do this time of year, I’ve been looking back at 2025, and the numbers aren’t exactly inspiring: down about 40% from last year. But outside of Sediment, a lot happened: we moved, welcomed a new cat, and I had some incredible opportunities working with local businesses in content creation and digital marketing (my actual full time job🫣). And within I focused on Inventory and supporting donating some product to local charities. And naturally, you see the ripple effects of all of that.

This is real life as a business owner. Burnout and growth existing at the same time.

I currently have boxes (donations, mind you) that have been sitting for over a year. Because of that, I’ve made the decision to pause both donations and consignment for the foreseeable future.

This doesn’t mean Sediment is going anywhere. New items will still be listed as consistently as possible, I just need to get a handle on what’s already here. This shift will actually benefit current consignors whose items are ready to be listed, and shoppers who are still looking for great new finds.

Thank you for giving me the space to recalibrate, catch up, and keep doing this in a way that’s sustainable for me, and for Sediment 🤍

As you tidy up after the holidays, consider donating your gently used formal wear. If you have old prom dresses, gala dresses, suits, or other formal attire, please drop them off at Quinte Mall Guest Services between January 5th and January 30th.

Your donation helps make grad and prom accessible to everyone in our community, ensuring all students have the chance to feel confident and included on their special night.👗 🕴️
