It’s been 1 year, 4 months and 20 days since I had to go to the hospital for my finger. It took a long time to get back to “normal” and I’ve been held back by the fear of having it happen again. Today I finally got up the nerve and gave it a try. Starting small with 4 pieces. Boy did it feel great getting muddy again 💕☺️

Well, I figured it was about time to provide an update. While I’ve gained much more movement in my finger it unfortunately still won’t straighten out. The ER Dr’s referral to the plastic surgeon was rejected and at this point the earliest appointment I’ve been offered isn’t until spring. Given that I’m still struggling with basic tasks like holding a glass or cutting my food; or that typing leaves my arm aching…my pottery is going to need to be on hold for quite some time. Hopefully I’ll be back late spring/early summer! Take care everyone 🙂

Well, rounding out 2022 in emerge. I’ve known something was off with my arm for sometime but I kept pushing through. My finger got locked in place today. 10/10 do not recommend!!!
Waiting on my X-ray results and then hoping it’s a simple “pop it back in” scenario 🤢 I have a few pieces I had slowly been sanding to post tomorrow but after that I’m afraid I’ll be taking a hiatus to rest and recover!

The drips are strong on this guy!!! I sanded the bottom but left where the glaze pooled because I think it’s so fascinating getting a look “inside” the glaze! Definitely one of a kind! This guy holds 1.5 cups. $35 with local pickup available in Pickering 😊

Celebrating mistakes this morning! I accidentally chipped the bottom of this mug where the glaze had dripped while in the kiln. And I am SO happy I did!!! Turns out it’s the perfect size for my morning latte 😌

Excited to announce the newest addition to Clay Misérables!
Meet Brigid a new to me baby kiln. Named for the Celtic goddess known for healing, protection, and guidance

“Brigid is an ever-changing goddess and can symbolize many different things. She is a goddess of creativity, fire, fertility, and springtime. Praying to Brigid about domestic matters is highly beneficial, but artists, craftsmen, poets, and those who earn their living from the earth or fire should also see excellent results with her.”
I’m excited but also terrified to learn this new skill. But this is a big step towards growing and eventually becoming self sufficient. The majority of our work will still be fired elsewhere but as they say “baby steps”.

There’s just something about that morning sun that’s magical. I love sitting outside and listening to the birds and cicadas!
It’s been quiet at Clay Mis lately. Partially because we didn’t have access to a kiln for a large portion of the summer but also (and probably mostly 😉) because we’ve been enjoying all that summer has to offer!
