In perhaps the most anatomically precise collection of bird illustrations ever assembled, Tommy Siegel’s Extremely Accurate Birds shows birders what the lower bodies of North American birds really look like.

Tommy Siegel noticed a theme in previous artist’s birding guides: Their renderings focus too heavily on birds’ wings and plumage while reducing their lower limbs to simple sticks. Could birds really achieve such varied feats of athleticism and migratory endurance if they had such rudimentary legs? Tommy is poised to revolutionize the field of ornithology with his interpretation of how birds’ beautiful legs and posteriors must truly appear (based on educated scientific guesses gleaned from observing their behavior in the field). Pairing his trailblazing bird drawings with (actually accurate, for real) birding tips on more than eighty common species found across North America, Tommy has created an essential addition to any birder’s shelf.

In store pull of the day! 🔔 “Budget Justice: On Building Grassroots Politics and Solidarities” continues to be as relevant as ever. Celina Su challenges everything you thought you knew about ‘boring’ government budgets. As you know, the affordability crisis in Canada has only worsened since Prime Minister Mark Carney’s Budget 2025. Su argues that budgets are moral documents that instead DEMAND grassroots participation to truly work for everyone. The books reveals how everyday citizens can shape policy to tackle everything from rising housing and food costs to police violence, underfunded schools, and climate change.

The Book of Birds is part of a larger series, “The Lost Words,” which is a celebration of bird life, re-imagining the classic field guide for a new generation of nature lovers.

Robert Macfarlane evokes each bird’s habits and habitats - their patterns of flight and of song, how they nest and hunt, the threats which shadow them, and how their lives intersect with ours.

Every page is graced by Jackie Morris’s exhilarating artwork painted in watercolour and gold.
