Hey World, Frayed is ready to ship the Frayed Passive Ribbon Mic Version 1. (FPRM-1) This microphone has been field tested and proven to compete with commercial mass produced ribbon microphones for studio applications.
Like all passive ribbon microphones it requires a preamp and the quality of the preamp will directly effect the output signal.
The FPRM-1 Features a 3D printed body and ribbon motor. It contains two N52 Neodymium magnets, a hand wound transformer and a standard Male XLR jack. The ribbon is made from recycled cigarette wrappers (with the paper removed) and held to the motor with standard paper binder clips. The cover threads onto the based with a 3D printed thread.
The ribbon is 45 microns thick making it much more rugged than a commercial ribbon microphone with it's 1.8 micron ribbon.
The FPRM-1 is an idea experimentation platform for people who want to experiment with different ribbon types and thicknesses.
Just attach the binder arms and release the clips.
Because the bodies are 3D printed they are available in a wide variety of colours.
Each microphone ships with a matching Shock Mount that screws onto a standard microphone stand.
The FPRM-1 retails for $200 CDN and can be ordered by contacting [email protected] or [email protected] while quanties last.
