I have been asked a lot lately why I don’t schedule drops anymore. The reason being, Paper Bag Princess is a passion project for me. I absolutely love doing this for a few reasons. I love clothing. I love second hand shopping. I love treasure hunting, whether it be for myself or someone else. BUT the truth of my life is that I’m a very busy mom and wife. I feel awful when I schedule a drop and then my son stays home from daycare and I need to bail on the drop. So, for me, it works better to be able to do it when I can. This, I feel, has actually allowed me to be more consistent because I can do it once a week without having to be strapped to a certain time.

That said, I appreciate your support and understanding. I appreciate you letting me do this thing while also trying to be the best mom I can be. It’s truly a blessing to be able to do both.

Now who wants a new drop today?💅

Thrift Hauls 🤝 Intentional Shopping
As I start to think about doing “thrift hauls” I would like to explain something I do that may also be helpful to others.

Truly, I love watching thrift haul reels. I’m nosey and I like treasure hunting. BUT I am also mindful of not over consuming / spending. So let me tell you how I shop for myself.

I have found the most useful tool / starting point to be Pinterest. I tend to try and shop a season ahead (so at this point Spring/Summer). I scroll Pinterest and pin looks that inspire me in some way or to remind myself of particular items I’m looking for.

From there I make a list of items I’m looking for. For example : flowy, linen, neutral are top of my list right now. So it would look something like “oversized white linen button down” “tan linen wide leg pants” and so on.

Once I’m shopping as I scan through I can kind of zoom in when I see something that looks like it might be on my list.

When I find something not on my list that catches my eye I ask myself “will this elevate my wardrobe?” “Will I reach for this” and the very important “do I already have something similar.”

These super easy steps keep me from ending up with an over flowing closet of pieces I don’t want to wear. Don’t get me wrong, I still occasionally end up with a rogue what was I thinking item but this helps to avoid that.

So when I say a thrift haul, this is what I mean. Not buying for the sake of buying.

It’s been a cold long winter and we are only about half way through. 😱

But here we are, it’s January and if you’re anything like me you’re looking forward to Spring.

I have been sourcing my butt off to bring you a gorgeous curated Spring collection. I will be resuming my story drops and when the 24 hour cycle ends, all unsold items will move to Bee You Creative for sale. But you will have the chance at first dibs here. I’ve made some changes in terms of returns, posts, delivery etc and will share all that with you for the first spring drop. Looking forward to a fresh 2025! 🌸🪻💜

Well hello hello.
Lately drops have been a little less successful than earlier days so I’ve decided for now to go in a different direction. I will still be doing drops at Bee You Creative Styles and you will still be able to purchase via instagram before I bring them in but I will be doing them on the grid. If something catches your eye please don’t hesitate to reach out. I am happy to give any and all information you would like.

After posting I was watching the Brandy Hellville doc, I had a lot of messages and some really good / interesting conversations. I’m not going to comment on the ‘corporate cult’ and sexualization of their staff here because it’s not what this page is about. And as a former corporate employee my feelings are complex. So I will focus on the environmental impact.

It would not be a hot take to say that fast fashion is killing the planet or that influencers / social media are a driving force. But what has stayed with me is the brands like Shein that are FILLING our second hand stores. I don’t buy them because I can’t / refuse to resell them and it’s usually priced in a way that I’d be surprised people would want to buy it second hand for their own closet. So what? It stays and ends up washed up on a beach in a country out of our sight? That’s not the answer. I’ve given this a lot of thought and I think I may have an idea…

My crafty friends. My sewers, my embroiderers, if you had access to free Shein products would/could you use it? I understand not wanting to pay for it. But what if you just had it, could you use it?

I’ve started to notice a shift in my own personal style and sourcing and I think you will notice it to so let’s talk about it.

You will, or maybe already have, noticed waaaay more vintage here. I love vintage clothing but it wasn’t a conscious choice and it’s not even what I’m looking for. It comes down to two things I’m looking for :
Quality fabrics / items and COLOUR!

So let’s start with the first of those two. Quality. Sure they used a lotttttt of acrylic over the years but the items holding up are the items worth having. I want clothing that lasts and clothing that feels good on my skin. And I want that for you too!

Second, colour. Recently my friend and I were in Montreal for a girls trip to do some shopping and eating. We both said we were looking for colour. Our hotel was right off Catherine so we hit the shops. Every store - Zara, COS, Aritzia, a sea of neutrals. Which don’t get me wrong, are crucial but a little variety is needed. So then we walked a few blocks to find some second hand and vintage stores and voila a rainbow.

My brand/niche whatever you want to call it will stay relatively the same but you will notice more vintage in the drops because if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. 🌈

Maybe it’s the spring weather we have had recently or maybe it’s the excitement of a new year but I’m feeling motivated and organized. I’ve been putting a lot of energy into Paperbag Princess the last couple weeks and I’m excited to start sharing with all of you.

I have spent the day getting ready for a new drop. So let me tell you about how I’ll be doing things moving forward.

Every Sunday there will be a drop at 1pm. The drop will be a sample of the new items I have carefully sourced. At the time of the drop, you have the option to purchase directly through me. Whatever does not sell will go with the rest of the stock I have carefully curated for Bee You Creative Styles. There you will find a lot more items I have sourced and selected that reflect my personal style (more on that later 😘)!

I’m excited to be back at it and excited to keep shopping and curating a beautiful second hand selection for you!

Happy Sunday!

I’ve noticed a real dip in instagram engagement lately. I blame myself for not keeping up to social media trends. But I also understand that times are tough and budgets are tight so buying clothing from instagram can be a gamble people aren’t as willing to take.

Fortunately, I have a wonderful relationship with Bee You Creative (wonderful in that the owner is one of my best friends) and you are able to shop and try things on in store. Which I love too!

So I’m taking another break to decide what to do with this account. But! Rest assured for my wonderful frequent shoppers, I am here for you, you can still find Paperbag Princess picks at Bee You Creative Styles.

Guys guys guys! I’m so excited to tell you about a new exciting way to shop Paper Bag Princess Ottawa!

Starting this weekend you will be able to shop Paper Bag Princess in person at Bee You Creative Styles in Sandy Hill!

I will still be doing weekly drops where you can get your hands on items first. Then all stock will be brought to Bee You where you will be able to try items on! Super excited to be doing this collab with my bestie Jess at her gorgeous shop. If you’ve never been you most go check it out. I never walk in without leaving with something.

I always play it safe, way safe, with accessories. I’m just a bit scared to miss the mark. But lately I’ve been really into statement earrings. It’s a really fun way to add some pop to a look without swinging too far out your comfort zone.

Baby steps. First a tasteful chain, some studs, then statement earrings. Who knows, one day maybe I’ll confidently wear a boa. One step at a time.
