We had so much fun at the WondrBolt Creative Building Workshop this weekend, which took place at Grounded Kitchen, Coffee & Bar! Thanks to everyone at Grounded for hosting us!

The workshop participants came up with some really awesome and creative ideas of things they could build with WondrBolts. Here are some pics from the event. We'll showcase each of the build separately as well so that you can all see the end result of each of our workshop projects.

The competition results are in! It was extremely close and the judges had difficulty picking just one project as their favourite. Every bridge had something unique and creative about it that really stood out. Each team worked hard and gave it their best and you all should be very proud of your accomplishment. Congratulations to all of you, and keep up the great work!

Finally, we had to pick a winner based on the judges decisions as well as the popular vote.

The winners are the Arch bridge by Noah and Maëlle, and the Cat-Walk bridge by Wesley and Gus! Congratulations! Each of you will be awarded a special prize: a cool wooden marble run machine that you can assemble yourselves. Enjoy!

Project 5: Noah & Maëlle's Arch/Beam Bridge

Our fifth and last project at the engineering challenge workshop is Noah and Maëlle's Arch/Beam Bridge. It was easily able to support the 5lb car. The folded up edges of the bridge surface are what give this bridge it's strength. The arch spanning the length of the bridge helps to add a little more rigidity to the beam, strengthening the center. The bottom of the bridge has angled supports that are kept in place by a rope in tension.

Project 4: Wesley & Gus - 'Cat Walk'

Our fourth project during the engineering challenge workshop is a truss bridge created by Wesley and Gus. It's called the 'Cat Bridge' or 'Cat Walk', because it is a bridge specifically designed for cats. The solid triangular structure, which is then connected at the top gives the impression of a covered bridge. As cat owners will recognize, this covered bridge feature is crucial for cats - they love being 'inside' something!

Project 3: Ally and Tobias - 'Pineapple Bridge'

The third project in our workshop is a tied arch bridge built by Ally and Tobias, called the 'Pineapple Bridge'. Although at first glance it appears to be a beam bridge, looking at it more closely it may be better classified as a tied arch bridge. The bridge surface is hanging from the inner arches, and the stabilising cardboard on the sides is attached to the arches, and not the bridge surface. Project 2: Natalya & Emmeline's House Bridge

Our second project is a beam bridge created by Natalya and Emmeline, called the House Bridge because of the house-like structure supporting the center of the bridge. It was easily able to support the 5lbs car crossing it. Please like / react to / share this post to show your support for them to win the popular vote prize!

Project 1: Yaseen and Benjamin's 'Golden Bridge'

Here's the first of our projects from the Engineering Challenge Workshop! Yaseen and Benjamin built a cable-stayed bridge. They called it the "Golden Bridge". It successfully supported the 5lb remote controlled car.

The bridge surface is suspended from a central support, and has an arced profile to give it additional strength.

Our Engineering Challenge Workshop was a huge success! Thank you to all the participants and everyone involved who helped make this event possible.

The Challenge for the workshop was to create a bridge across a 4 foot space between 2 desks, and then drive a remote controlled car (with 5 lbs of weight strapped onto it) across the bridge. I'm happy to say that all the teams successfully completed the challenge! I'll be posting pictures of the individual projects shortly, so be sure to 'like' your favourite ones. The project with the most likes and positive reactions will earn a special prize!

In the meantime, here are a few pictures from the event.
