Help Us Solve A Crime - Kawartha Smoke - Hampton Store - Break-In
On August 15, 2025 at approximately 4:20am a mid 2000's dark blue Mazda 3 sedan pulls into the parking lot of the Hampton Plaza (2363 Taunton Rd., Hampton), lets call it the “S**t Box”. It has a large dent on the driver's side door, a sunroof and rust running along the passenger side rocker panels to the right rear wheel well. The licence plate on the vehicle (CAVF706) is a canceled plate from the Ottawa area. Our cameras observed it traveling eastbound on Taunton Rd prior to turning onto Old Scugog Rd and entering the plaza. S**t Box was positioned parallel to the building (across the parking spaces) blocking the view of the door from Taunton Rd.
The driver is wearing a light coloured hoody and is using his cellphone while the robbery is in progress. All of the perpetrators appear to be young males in there late teens early twenties (probably out on bail?). Three occupants exit the vehicle, two are wearing dark shorts, dark t-shirts, sandals with socks (call the fashion police), face coverings or balaclavas and gloves. The third perpetrator is wearing a black hoodie and black track pants and a very unique pair of running shoes that are black and have bright yellow soles and stripping (we will call him Yellow Soles).
They stand around outside the store for a full 4 minutes planning their attack. One of the perpetrators spends the whole time with both hands in his pockets and appears to be playing pocket pool (possible STI?). Lets call him “STI”. The Second perpetrator appears to have long hair, possibly in a bun. His balaclava is emblazoned with a HELLCAT logo. Lets call him “Bun Head”. Bun Head appears to injure his left hand while breaking into the store. STI appears to be the ring leader. We believe they traveled east on Taunton Rd when they departed.
There was a fair amount of blood in the store after they left. Through the process of elimination we believe Bun Head was the one cut and bleeding. Yellow Soles seemed quite nervous and unsure what to do in the videos. Bun Head and STI do not have any visible tattoos. It was a very warm night, so Yellow Soles wearing a hoodie (hood always up), a face covering and track pants, might indicate he has tattoos. The Police have taken blood samples from the scene, so Bun Head they are going to have your DNA on file at the National DNA Database.
Attached is are the best face shots of Bun Head and STI, if you know them, you would be able to identify them by their distinctive eyebrows. If you recognize them or see the car please let us know. If you see a car with licence number is CAVF706 call 911 immediately and report it, the vehicle is probably involved in a in-progress crime.
We would also like to give a shout out to the Durham Regional Police. Their response was excellent, timely, the officers were very professional, courteous and thorough in their investigation.
