Who says that you have to have a musical instrument to join in the get together.
Simple containers with loose objects in them, sticks whip can tap out a rhythm and even clapping your hands together or against clothing all add to the spirit of the music.
If you are lucky enough to have an instrument, (old or new), put it to good use and even share it with a friend. The secret is to have fun. They all did it at the turn of the century.

Here we are in May and the itch to play our instruments in the park again is with us again.
I know it would be great to have gatherings again and Jam sessions. I am glad most of us are staying safe but making the best of the season.

Many complaints are coming in about Autoharps losing the felts on the chord bar.
The problem is that they are being kept in areas which are too warm and too dry. They dry out and the glue becomes unstuck, hence the felt falls off.
The felt can easily be reglued when you inspect the chord bar and not the mark that this felt left behind. Reattach it an check it and Voila you are back in business.

Recently I had inquiries about the need of replacement parts for the Autoharp. A customer told me that all strings needed to be replaced on the instrument every six months. I guess if you performed nightly on stage that might be true, but most people do not use their instruments that much. My rule of thumb is to replace strings when they lose their resonance, become oxidated or when they break. The same applies to springs. When they lose their ability to push the chord bars back up properly then replace the weak ones. One can spend lots of money on parts when it is not necessary or on the other hand ignore problems and be disappointed with the instrument. Rely on a trustworthy person and enjoy the autoharp.
