Just tried a new polymer clay technique and didn't get it right the first time, so obviously my disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined.

This is a gorgeous handmade choker I made. The cord itself is about 17" to 18" inches and somewhat stiff so it will hold its shape, which I think lends itself very nicely to large round pendants like these.

The whole pendant itself is made from clay including the center cabochon, bezel, and bail. I included four CZs at the top just to accent the curve a bit, nothing fancy, but pretty nonetheless.

Made the matching earrings from the same mokume gane project and I'm just really pleased with how it came out.

The swirls in mokume gane jewelry might remind you of Damascus steel, and that's actually not a coincidence. Both are created by stacking layers of different materials and revealing their patterns through carving, twisting, or pressing.

Damascus steel was made for strength, layering different steels for beautiful (and deadly) blades. Mokume gane began in Japan, layering precious metals for decorative sword fittings.

I use polymer clay instead of metal or steel, but the general principle is the same. What's great about it is that no two pairs are ever exactly the same, but they're always beautiful!

Hey fam, it’s me, again, peeking out from my craft goblin cave 🌿👀

Been a hot minute, hasn’t it? So, uh, my surgery hiatus ended up taking a lot longer than I thought it would. Road to hell, and all...

As usual, being laid up hasn't stopped the craft magic. Nope, I’ve been as busy as a bee, even if all I’ve managed some days is to dream up new designs between naps. 🐝💤

But... real talk? I’ve been trying to up my photo game to show off all the cool stuff I’ve been working on, and let’s just say... it’s been a journey. 😂

Why did no one tell me that taking a decent pic would be harder than finding a needle in a haystack?

And editing?

Pfft, that’s a whole other realm of time-sucking madness I wasn’t prepared for.

(Anyone got a spell for making this easier? Asking for a friend. 📸✨)

But hey, it’s all good fun. And I'm learning a LOT, which is the most important part.

I mean, amidst the countless “oops” shots and “what on earth is that?" moments, and occasional swears when I accidentally drop something... including my DSLR a few times 😭🤣there's some real magic happening!

I'm actually in the middle of working my way through processing + photographing around 250 items, all of which will (eventually) make their way into my Etsy shop (once I get better at pictures 😆). It’s all coming your way, and I’m so excited (and slightly nervous) to share it with you!

In the meantime, I thought I'd share 10 of my favorite pics I've taken so far. I'm really pleased with how they came out given where I started, and so I absolutely AM tooting my own horn.

And trust me, this is just the beginning. 🌟 🎉

There’s more magic tucked up my sleeve, ready to sprinkle over your feed and bring a little more enchantment into our days. 🍄🧚‍♀️ I'll just need a little patience and time to get through them all.

And hey, if you've got any tricks or feedback for capturing the perfect shot that doesn’t look like it was taken by a toddler on a sugar high, I’m all ears. 😆 Get at me!

These earrings were an accident.

Not the hearts -- those came out great, honestly. Way better than I expected.

But when I went to sand and buff them... I realized that I had drilled the hole at the top totally off-center. 🫠

I tried to fix it by drilling the hole bigger.

I made it worse 🫣

Sighing, I resigned myself to tossing them into the "too sucky to sell" pile... and then I noticed some resin charms I picked up at Michaels a while back.

Turns out they were the perfect addition. Covered my horrible drilling job and even had a hole just right for earrings.

Lesson of the day? Don't give up on your mistakes too quickly. 🥰

Hey everyone! I'm so happy to say I'm back in the crafting studio after my surgery. What a journey the past few weeks have been, but I'm feeling better each day. I've been working on some new Valentine's Day pieces.

This will never stop being fun to me, no matter how many times I do it! The best part of the job haha😁🥰

Just wanted to stop by and give a little update as I was wrapping up packing some orders today.

I'm having a nephrectomy on Jan 16. I'll probably be semi-AFK for at least the foreseeable future, depending on how things go. Please keep your toes and fingers crossed for me.

There IS a TON of fun coming for Willowlark Crafts throughout the late winter and spring!

-- A massive Etsy restock. Yes, I've decided to give Etsy another shot as I'm not sure I gave it a fair chance the first time.

-- A new Maven Fair account. Want to buy in CAD? This site will help.

-- A new general website. Details to come, but it will at least have links to my store pages, social media, and a tutorials blog.

-- Video tutorials! I haven't decided whether I'll show my mug or not on cam, it gives me the heebie jeebies 🤣

-- Local craft shows! Assuming I'm well enough, I plan to haunt local craft shows all spring, summer and fall. Yes, that is a threat 😊
