Its spooky season everyday at The Emporium but our time to shine is quickly approaching in the form of Samhain.

The Hippy Momma and I are at it again busy making decor and spooky accessories to mark the season. Here is one that just came of its first firing and it will soon be glazed and refired.

We have to start early as we are not simply slip casting but creating pieces with a combination of wheel thrown bases and handbuilt inspired accents. Pieces take anywhere from 2 weeks to 1 month to be done.This is our favorite time of year to create and where we have the most fun.

Can you believe this Shimpo Whisper pottery wheel is almost 9 years old?! I was so proud when I bought my own wheel. It was a defining moment and a commitment to myself that I would continue with perseverance in this craft.

Few people know how much pottery equipment costs. This wheel when I bought it was $2000 (+ taxes) it now costs around $2600 (+taxes). Don't even get me started with kilns!

I keep it pretty meticulous as it ultimately pays my bills and reminds me that its possible to do something you love (although some days I love it less😆🤣😉). The tray is still in great shape too but I just cleaned it and its drying in the other room.

Being an artist is often a bit of a sacrifice. There are lots of things you forgo with the acceptance of the unknown while stepping into the void of what some might consider madness. Are you even living if you arent living with a bit of abandon?!

Thanks to everyone who supports the shop how ever they can! Lets all be mad together!!

Just a few reminders for this week and next week:

1. We are taking a vacation day and will be closed tomorrow (August 5th) but will be open for regular hours again Thursday to Saturday the remainder of the week (12 to 5 pm)!

2. Matt Mudutu Effect book reading and signing August 13th: 7 to 9 pm. See event details for more info! (Space is limited so arrive promptly)

This beautiful turquoise mermaid mug features an octopus te****le wrapping around the handle. Quartz spikes are added to resemble Pool Spar as well as seashells and barnacles tucked in the fin!

Mermaid mug with Seahorse on the handle and Quartz Spikes to resemble Pool Spar in underground caves but instead neatly tucked into the mermaid tail fin. Mug also features seashells, barnicles and a turtle in the fin.
