THE BEATLES AT BBAM!

Are you into The Beatles? Like, really into The Beatles.

Two of Canada's great Beatle historians will be here Friday, Sept 25, for the Montreal book launch of THE BEATLES IN CANADA (1964-1970) by Piers Hemmingsen. This is an incredible (and gigantic) all-colour masterpiece of research and, in some ways, a history of the nascent Canadian music industry. Worth every penny (and more).

Piers will be doing a talk about Rubber Soul and Revolver, while Quebec pop icon Gilles Valiquette will debut (en francais) an audio/visual presentation on Revolver et ses adapations francophones.

Free admission.
Please share and let Beatle fans know about this!

Hugh Ball is a Montreal man of mystery and surprise.

In the 80s, he led new wave combos The Martinis and then What It Is! before going solo with an lp, Hypnotized, on Justin Time Records, recorded at The Record Plant with Elliot Easton (The Cars) and other heavyweights.

But his true passion was always the music of an earlier era and in the 90s, Hugh led a swingin jazz combo in Old Montreal mixing up jazz standards with little-known gems from forgotten records (did we mention he's a massive record collector).

Oh, and somewhere in there he played guitar in Cherie Currie (the Runaways)'s backing band when she headlined the El Mocambo, Toronto (!!!).

But, back to the past; which is now his present. As Hugh was filling up his shopping bag with vinyl at BBAM!, we started talking about our mutual love for old jazz and chanson and, next thing you know, we have coaxed him back on stage for two sets of standards and should-have-been standards and chansons and a fun evening of mid-century musical discovery.

This is a special night you don't want to miss.

And, to sweeten the deal, an opening set by RALPH and Friends; before we hit the highway for our Toronto debut, Sunday, Oct 11, at the hip Sellers And Newel bookstore (books and jazz, what?!).

That's 3 (count 'em, 3 sets) of music in a dimly-lit intimate jazz loft vibe. It's an old school experience and all about the music.

DRAWING FROM IMPERFECTIONISM
a group exhibition curated by Alaïa Parhizi

July 3rd to August 9th, 2026.
Vernissage: 5pm, Friday, July 3
808 Atwater, Montreal
(Lionel Groulx Metro)

BBAM! Gallery will be hosting the debut Montreal exhibition of the Imperfectionism movement as curated by the movement’s founder, Alaïa Parhizi, the Los Angeles based artist and gallery co-founder (Wonzimer Gallery).
Imperfectionism is setting aside premeditation; presenting the collected artworks of artists who are free from old paradigms and limitations; giving themselves the space for a creative art practice that is focused and deeply liberated.
This is our second collaboration with AlaÏa. His debut solo show at BBAM! in August, 2024 (In A Beautiful Haze) was extremely successful and influential.
We are excited to support the expansion of AlaÏa’s curational vision - giving us the opportunity to introduce the artists and the artwork of the Imperfectionism Movement to Canada and Montrèal.
Join us!
Alaïa Parhizi is the founder of Imperfectionism, an art movement
and creative philosophy he established in 2014 as a direct counterpoint to perfectionism. Rather than treating perfection as an attainable goal, Parhizi defines it as a hypothetical construct and an illusion.
His movement actively challenges the contemporary obsession with flawless outcomes — especially in an era dominated by artificial intelligence, robotics, and digital automation.
