I recently posted a video about my crochet pattern icks (as a pattern designer myself). A lot of people mentioned how hard it is to find testers as a small creator (been there, TRUST), and how it's also very hard nowadays to get picked as a tester (especially if you have a private account, or a low follow count).
Well, today is the day where we close this gap, my lovelies ❤️
This post is also open to knitting and sewing pattern designers too (or any other art form I can't link of right now)! Don't be shy!
Here are some suggestions, as a designer myself:
Designers: you may want to prepare a tester form before you post a comment! Prioritize real people, NOT follow counts/public accounts! Try to pick testers who are plus sized, neurodivergent (especially dyslexic), with different hair textures, mobility aid users, etc (depending on your project). Be realistic and generous with your timeline. And lastly, ACCEPT THE CRITICISM! LISTEN TO YOUR TESTERS WHEN THEY ASK QUESTIONS OR GIVE YOU FEEDBACK!! oh my GOD
Testers: make sure you actually have the time to complete the test! It is the designer's responsibility to provide ample time, but it's also your responsibility to manage your time correctly. If you cannot complete the test, that is okay!! Just communicate that to the designer, they will be grateful that you let them know. Don't be afraid to give your HONEST opinion! Don't just glaze your designer to be nice, it's not productive. If they refuse to hear your honest feedback, that is THEIR problem, not yours!
