It's the shadow lines.

Profile depth: How far a door frame projects from its panel face determines how much shadow the door creates in natural and artificial light.

Because you can't always tell the quality of a cabinet door from a photo.

You can't feel things like:

- The weight of the door when you open it

- The density of the material under your hand

- The way the edge profiles, whether a slight radius or a sharp bevel, responds to touch

- The difference between a surface that feels smooth because it's flat and one that feels smooth because it was cured properly

A vinyl-wrapped door and a factory-lacquered door over a furniture-grade MDF substrate can photograph nearly the same, but in person, they feel different.

→ The wrapped door has a softness to it that communicates surface treatment rather than material quality.

→ The lacquered door feels like the finish is part of the door, not applied to it.

Use IKEA's free kitchen planner to map out your space. Dimensions, cabinet configuration, appliance placement. Function first, style later.

Step 2 — Choose your doors, panels, and material
Once the layout is set, select from over 250 architectural door styles and seven premium material options. This is where the kitchen starts to look like yours.

Step 3 — Choose your colour
Every component can be finished in any colour from major paint brands. Custom stain options are available for a natural wood look.

Step 4 — Work with the Allstyle team
