This week I have had the pleasure of hatting (if this is not a verb, it should be) several charming, beautiful, gracious, and talented authors who came to Lunenburg for a writers’ retreat with .ca. The retreat was held , who have been so kind to keep my brochures displayed. What completely surprised me was the ratio of hat lovers in this group. Of 11 women, 5 were passionate about hats…almost unheard of. Is there a connection between authors and hats? Whatever the reason, I am beyond grateful for the love and support. This lady is Alice Yen Yong. I’m just beginning to read one of her short stories that was published in Rice Paper Magazine.

This beautiful woman said the sweetest thing to me. She said, Now I get to have some Anna Shoub energy. She enjoyed my hats, but wasn’t a hat wearer. This, to me, is what it’s all about, sharing what I love. I’m so happy that my scarves are giving me the opportunity to connect with more women.

I’m having a delightfully busy June, but there’s always time to weave. I’m so excited to learn how to frame squares. I don’t know what it is about little squares, but they always melt my heart. Thank goodness for , such an incredible resource for learning.

I loved being back at The Lunenburg Farmers Market yesterday amongst my neighbours. The highlight, though, was selling 2 handwoven scarves to 2 amazing ladies. Now when I weave I get to say, “I’m working.” (kind of like being a professional ice cream tester.)

I think I may get the not so coveted award for Lunenburg’s most hidden business. I’m on a quiet residential street just a 5 minute walk from the shopping district of Lunenburg…..a very pretty walk ( ok, it’s uphill, but still…).Stop by some time, even if it’s just to look. I’m always happy to share what I do. Not every small town has a hidden milliner.

Meeeeeeeemories……Like the corners of my mind…misty water coloured memories…How it all began.

A collaboration between me, the plants, the sheep and the birds, who provided the background music. Hand woven and naturally dyed with Indigo, weld, Queen Anne’s Lace, madder root and brown from the sheep herself. It’s a combination of Blue Faced Leicester and Rambouillet wool.

Well that was fun. A bit of finishing work and there will be 4 naturally dyed, Blue Faced Leicester scarves.
