Might have a legit PAF on the bench in for repair/rewind…

So far, signs are pointing to real PAF. Cover seems to look right, the feet on the baseplate have the well-known “L” tooling marks and the black tape has black adhesive (vs. Modern tape with white-ish adhesive)… Magnet is a rough cast Alnico of some type. Missing the decal though, so can’t confirm the decal has/had the correct font/print. Stay tuned!

I didn't start making pickups to start a business.

I started because I couldn't find what I was hearing in my head and had a strong curiosity in what makes a pickup "tick". So I learned to wind. Then I got obsessed. Then, many rabbit holes later, it turned out other players were chasing the same or similar things.

Every Romain pickup gets made to one standard: would I put this on my own guitar? If the answer isn't yes, then it doesn't leave the bench.

That's the whole thing, really.

I just love electric guitars, and I love playing them - especially when they sound great.

We get asked a lot: "what makes a hand-wound pickup different?"

Honest answer: One major part is the scatter. When you wind by hand, the wire doesn't lay perfectly uniform — it overlaps, it shifts slightly, the coil wire tension varies. This creates a more complex magnetic field. That complexity is what gives vintage pickups their character. The warmth that breathes. The highs that shimmer without getting harsh.

Huge respect and gratitude to Grant Thomas, our original lead singer, who had to step away from Crash Carter. From that chapter, we’re stepping forward with a new identity, new energy, and the same love for loud guitars and big songs.

Scored a sweet little amp on a trade… 1955 Magnatone Melodier Deluxe… possibly a Tweed Deluxe style circuit? All original except for the 3-prong cord and possibly the handle. Sounds incredibly good for a small 2x8” combo. Wouldn’t know it was 70 years old if you didn’t see it or smell it. It smells like old amps do. AWESOME…

Will be doing some videos of this this fall for sure!
