🚨 NOTICE – THAMES RIVER USE REGULATION UPDATE 🚨

Effective April 1, 2026, the City of London has implemented a temporary restriction on recreational canoe use along the Thames River.

This decision follows an increase in documented incidents involving improper canoe operation and general paddling inefficiency.

Observed concerns include:
• Repeated circular navigation patterns
• Unintended shoreline collisions
• Improper paddle orientation and usage
• Overestimation of individual canoeing ability

As a result, all individuals must successfully complete a Basic Canoe Competency Assessment (BCCA) prior to launching.

Enforcement may be conducted at designated river access points. Non-compliant paddlers may be asked to return to shore.

We appreciate the public’s cooperation as we work to improve overall river safety and paddling standards.
