Brown’s latest graphic novel review column takes on some unusually timely reading: Generation Zero, the out-of-print 1991 post-apocalyptic adventure from Pepe Moreno and Archie Goodwin.

Originally serialized in Epic Illustrated, the book mixes nuclear-war anxiety, desert survival, wild sci-fi action, and gorgeous European-style art.
Dan looks at why this strange, pulpy graphic novel still feels relevant today, especially when real-world headlines of the U.S.-Iran war can make Cold War nightmare stories feel a little less distant.

Should Doctor Who disappear for a while?

In this week’s pop-culture column, Dan Brown argues that the BBC’s long-running sci-fi institution may need more than a new showrunner or another regeneration. It may need a proper rest.

From Tom Baker nostalgia to streaming overload, Dan makes the case that putting Doctor Who on the shelf could be the best way to keep the Time Lord alive for future generations.

Two graphic novels. Two very different reactions.

Dan Brown’s latest Graphic-Novel Group column looks at L.A. Mood’s two-book discussion of Mouse Guard: Dawn of the Black Axe and Gareth Hinds’ adaptation of The Iliad.

One got an enthusiastic thumbs up. The other? More of a thoughtful thumb sideways.

Seth Rogen is rebooting The Littlest Hobo — yes, really.

Dan Brown has thoughts. A lot of them. The new version can work, but only if it remembers what made the original Canadian TV classic special: a real dog, sincere storytelling, memorable guest stars, and absolutely no wink-at-the-camera irony.

Some actors are so super, one superhero role just isn’t enough.

Jason Momoa went from ruling Atlantis as Aquaman to joining the DC universe again as Lobo. Ryan Reynolds survived Green Lantern and became Deadpool. Ben Affleck traded Daredevil’s red leather for Batman’s cape. Robert Downey Jr. is going from Iron Man to Doctor Doom.

Comic book casting has become its own multiverse, where the right actor can get a second shot, a new mask, and sometimes an even bigger role.

Dan Brown looks at the super actors behind our superheroes — and why fans are often willing to cheer them all over again.

Are we alone? And more importantly… is the new Disclosure Day movie the Close Encounters of the Third Kind sequel we have been waiting almost 50 years for?

Steven Spielberg is heading back into alien territory, and Dan is ready to believe. This week’s L.A. Mood pop-culture column looks at Disclosure Day, the shadow of CE3K, flying saucers, childhood movie memories, and why Spielberg’s optimistic take on alien contact still matters.
