Space aboard a 19th-century warship could be extremely limited. The U.S. Model 1860 Naval Cutlass combined a compact curved blade with a substantial brass hand guard, creating a design well suited to the crowded environment of a ship’s deck.

Produced historically by the Ames Manufacturing Company, the Model 1860 became one of the most recognizable American naval cutlass patterns of the Civil War era.
