A new driver-owned food delivery service is now operating in Guelph.

Direct Local Eats is a food delivery service that operates through a fair partnership with local restaurants/food vendors and drivers in each city. With only a 5% service fee (which is on average 4-5 times lower than the competitors), this enables businesses to offer lower menu prices to their customers, who in turn save up to 20% by ordering through Direct Local Eats. Drivers also keep 90% of the delivery fee.

Direct Local Eats supports local communities by allowing more money to stay with local businesses and delivery drivers, while consumers enjoy top quality service (where the drivers actually care!).

Direct Local Eats - a food delivery app and platform co-op, has launched in Guelph, Ontario. Co-owned by the drivers in each city, Direct Local Eats levels the playing field in food delivery by offering the lowest rates and service charges, with everyone winning at the end of the day.

- Drivers & couriers get 90% of the delivery fee and co-own the platform.
- Businesses are only charged 5% (as opposed to 20-35% with Uber Eats, DoorDash, etc.) with no additional and no hidden fees.
- Consumers can save up to 20% on their orders (since businesses do not have to increase their prices to compensate for the excessive charges by the large competitors).
- Drivers & businesses earn additional income (15% of the profits from each transaction) by referring new members - drivers or businesses, helping the platform grow.

Uber has long refused to recognize couriers and drivers using its platform as employees and instead likened them to independent contractors because they have the flexibility to drive or deliver as little or as much as they want
