Tri·chomes [ˈtrīkōmz] : A protective barrier of crystal resin that forms on cannabis and contains terpenes and cannabinoids like THC and CBD.

Calyx + Trichomes is a proudly local, family owned and operated cannabis accessories store that will sell cannabis products once licensed.

Jennawae McLean grew up in Kingston, and Lorenzo Cavion moved to Kingston for love 10 years ago. As leaders in the cannabis community, you may recognize the great danes or the rest of the team from 420 Kingston. With the lease at 420 Kingston up, and the Cannabis Act parameters defined, it became clear that the team had to either renovate or move. Jennawae and Lorenzo searched high and low. At one point, they even considered the RioCan Centre (right next to where the OCS was supposed to move in).

One day while driving around their neighborhood in the west end, they realized they had found the perfect location: Midland Ave. It was far from areas of sensitivity (like schools, parks or playgrounds), it was close to other businesses that were meant for adults only, and accessible to the 401. It was also an empty canvas which Jennawae LOVED. So, even before private sale was officially announced, they secured the perfect location at 1105 Midland Ave., and decided to create a new brand focused on responsible use, social responsibility and education. Plus they wanted an interesting new name that was unique, would spark discussion and could eventually grow to other towns and cities in Ontario. Calyx + Trichomes was born. In August planning began, and private sale was officially announced! The space was planned in 2 phases, the first without the secure room and security (just front store area, furniture, the look and feel, staff area). Once the government laid out their specific requirements for security and storage areas, the second phase of construction began to incorporate them.

3 days before the applications were to be submitted, the provincial government announced that cannabis sales would be introduced in a phased approach, and that a lottery system would come first. With this announcement, Jennawae and Lorenzo decided that they needed to focus all of their energy into the new space and brand, and 420 Kingston closed forever on January 26, 2019. With the help of the team, everything was moved over and set up on January 27 and the first day open was January 28, 2019. Calyx + Trichomes grand opening was February 1, 2019. Calyx + Trichomes finally became approved to sell cannabis starting June 1, 2020.
