Behind the scenes of this busy holiday season we have been working on a little something to celebrate our local scene! With support from and we were able to get away from Shopify (we got the ick), and create an energizing and fun new website for Zap Records. With in house blogger extraordinaire .mother.tucker we hope you will check in often for a dose of music nerdiness - from concert reviews to an updated poster archive and even neighborhood tips for shopping, eats and venues.

Brooks and Bowskill at The Broom Factory
with special guest Emilie Steele

Brooks & Bowskill is the collaboration of Canadian wife-and-husband musicians Brittany Brooks and Jimmy Bowskill. Their genre-bending sound journeys between folk, country-rock, pop and rock and roll.

Jim Bowskill, a multi-talented instrumentalist, songwriter, producer and recording engineer has established himself as one of the most profound musicians and music producers in the industry. He is a member of Canadian country-rock band Blue Rodeo, as their multi-instrumentalist and previously spent 7 years as lead guitarist of Canadian rock band The Sheepdogs.

Since the beginning of her musical career, Brooks has been a prolific songwriter, singer and instrumentalist, crafting lyrically evocative songs steeped in wisdom beyond her years. She has become notable for her unique and poignant vocal styling reminiscent of female folk-rock pioneers from the ‘60s like Sandy Denny, Joni Mitchell and country artists like Emmylou Harris and Sylvia Tyson. In addition to releasing multiple solo albums, Brooks has provided background vocals on records and in live performances for numerous bands including Blue Rodeo.

Barb sneaking onto the Zap insta to share some love and appreciation for Gary on our 12th anniversary! (Or is it 13, we may have lost track...)

As each year passes I feel luckier to be with this awesome guy. I see him showing up for everything music, quietly caring for community, and still finding time to host epic BBQs, treat our cats Tina and Squeaks like queens, and make me laugh with his secret sense of humor (if you hear a joke from him it's the highest honour!!)

We started our anniversary weekend with some time at the promenade - was great to see everyone and feel the awesome energy in downtown kingston!
