it's the most wonderful time of the year!!! next Saturday is Canadian Independent Bookstore Day and we are sooooooo excited to celebrate with our community 🥳

we've got some fun things planned including the second annual HRM bookstore crawl with a bunch of our incredible fellow indies. grab a passport at your first stop and collect all 7 stamps before May 4th for a chance to win. each store has their own unique prize so check them all out and bring your passport back to the store of your choice to enter their draw!

lots of other fun, cool things in store including 10% off EVERYTHING (with participation in our community recommendation wall), our guess the number of books giveaway, mystery "blind date" with a book bags and more!!

with so much planned we will be open an hour early and staying open an hour late to accommodate all the fun!

fave book of all time- currently, Never Mind by Edward St Aubyn

online sign-up is now live for egghead's q***r horror bookclub! hosted by assistant store manager, Kit (they/them). this lgbtqia2s+ only club is monthly and focuses on horror titles by q***r authors. check out the picks for April, May, and June + rsvp on our website!

be sure to check triggers! have questions about any of them? Ask Kit, they can give you some helpful spoilers for specific triggers to decide if the book is for you!

meet Liz (me!)- owner. loves: books (duh), farmers markets, and knitting. hates: surprises, celery, and accounting. I'm in the store less these days with a new baby at home but still very much here behind the scenes. so grateful to the incredible team for keeping everything going strong and for our community supporting us in this season of life 🐥

top genres- lil bit of everything: speculative fiction, scifi, multigenerational family sagas, translated contemporary fiction, funny board books, modern classics, myth retellings

fave book of 2025- Immaculate Conception by Ling Ling Huang (an egghead reading club pick!)

fave book of all time- so hard but maybe East of Eden by John Steinbeck, for a childhood fave I'd say Lizzy's Lion by Dennis Lee- it's sadly out of print now (perhaps for the mauling element) 🦁

pets- two stinky little dogs- Bennett and Linus (aka bean and grime)

fun fact- I was born in Sydney, Cape Breton 🦞

after a brief hiatus we are back for another season of egghead book's reading club! join us to discuss some short lit fic books in the category of "liz thought this sounded interesting but has not read it so if it sucks opps." BUT I actually have read our March pick and thought it would make a great convo so I do in fact endorse that one!

Okay also I had a baby like really recently (yay!) so our bookseller Rue will be taking the lead on these discussions but I will hopefully be there to gab if the little peanut will let me. Sign up now!
