Valerie's Native Creations Native Arts and Crafts Hi everyone my name is Valerie Hope. I was born and raised in Fort Liard, Northwest Territories. She also make birch bard baskets. Mushi.

I started crafting in school but also before then spent alot of time with my grandmother Augustine Behile. She was the start of what I had a passion for. We sat under her canvas tent in the summer on spruce bows and I watched her make moccasins, wraparounds with tanned moosehide and moose sinew to stitch together. I have fond memories her and her skills. She also make her own moosehide. Now that I

am older the memories are as clear as I was there back then. We spent as much time as we could and even as a young adult. I gave back to her what she gave to me. At one point, I took care of my grandparents. Over the years I left the crafting part of my life to raise my children (3), work and be a wife. When I got back into crafting, I started with earrings and smaller things beaded card holders, etc. Now I have enough confidence to explore what I truly has a passion for. I make earrings, beaded card holders, moccasins, baby belts, moss baby bag, newly added crowboots and mukluks. I still have more to explore and created. Some days my mind works overtime in what I can make. As of today, I ask my fellow crafters, elders, mom and aunite for their option and help when I run into difficultly. They have helped over the years and I am truly grateful. Next passion is too learn the art of naturally tanning moosehide/deer. I want to thank all of you for joining my page and being apart of my journey.
