Gluing piano parts fun fact 🎹: wood and keytops (typically made of plastic or ivory for older pianos) presents a peculiar challenge. For the bond to hold, it must be strong, but flexible, as the glued materials do not have the same reaction to changes in humidity and temperature. Historically, hide glue, typically made from boiling animal bones, hide, and cartilage was used. Nowadays we have found more easy-to-use modern equivalents, but based on the same principles, made from fish.
