I’ll start this post by sending my upmost gratitude to Gerard Hussey for coordinating the go fund me on behalf of our company. We played a fair game this season and we did not profit millions but paid our fishermen fair prices for their products. I got in this for the purpose and I haven’t swayed from that. The money collected will make a huge difference but the support is the factor that lets us decide if the fight is worth it or not. We are just one small company and it hasn’t been easy right from the start with many battles yet to come.
The results of the labour board case came back and all points were awarded to the ASP. I would like to say I’m surprised but this tends to be a common result that I have come to see. Dockside grading impedes our operations. Wait times on crab in warm temperatures could be the difference between dead or alive and overalls value for the loads we send out. Maritime plants don’t use it and don’t want it for any crab they receive. But as I’ve been told it’s not about the grading just the insurance that all company’s fall in line and the system remains the same. Funny however, that we know for a FACT other members of ASP have not graded and have not have any action taken towards them for not doing so.
We lost this one and I’m sure there is more to come. There is a huge wall in between where we are and where we need to be but we will keep chipping away at the wall for as long we can.
Sincerely want to thank the fishermen that showed their support. The amount of people willing to help that never even had the chance to sell us product was mind blowing. A huge thank you to for always being in our corner when it comes to free enterprise. It’s this support that gives us the drive to keep fighting. Bring on the next battle and the next season!

Well today has become a very interesting day indeed. A small company in the fish buying industry has attracted the attention of a multi million dollar corporate processing operation. Due to the 36,000 pounds of Cod fish I brought from my harvesters and shipped to a local processor, some tension was created! This large processing corporation made a call to another cod processing plant and forced them stop buying products from us by, I’m assuming, threatening to stop the supply! As a new buyer, operating with one of the newest licences from our government, it seems they want to control what I am able to do! Is my little operation making that big of a difference to this big processor that they want to me out ? Seems like it to me! But I can guarantee that I doubt I’ll be going anywhere anytime soon! For every fence you built in front of me I’ll most likely find a way around it. The greed of One never ceases to amaze me! The power hold they have here is unbelievable, and government has stopped the issuing of new processing licenses, WHY? With two days of cod buying in this province they blocked up all processing company’s solid ! Two days , sounds like there’s a processing problem and this problem needs to be addressed! This is year one and we have made waves with just three weeks of planning. Next year we will be better again!
