🚨 EPISODE 9: A FAMILY WEDDING… OR AN ADVERTISED BUSINESS? 🚨

Mrs. Brian Jean says Albertans are allowed to have friends and family on their property.

Of course they are.

A family wedding.
A birthday party.
A barbecue.
A reunion.

Nobody is arguing against that.

But residents are asking about something different:

Is there not a difference between hosting your friend’s wedding and advertising your property as a place people can hire?

Is there not a difference between inviting family over and promoting:

• Weddings
• Event rentals
• Accommodation
• Airbnb stays
• Seminars
• Staff barbecues
• Holiday events
• Gatherings for up to 150 guests

That is the question.

Because the RMWB documents referred to online information for “River’s Edge Event Centre,” rental advertising, Airbnb listings, and promotions for events.

This is not Alberta Today saying that a family cannot visit a property.

This is Alberta Today asking whether an advertised event and accommodation operation should be treated differently from a private family gathering.

If a regular resident advertises their home as an event venue or rental space, would the municipality ask questions?

Would permits be required?

Would enforcement happen?

Those are fair questions.

And they deserve clear answers.

🚨 EPISODE 8: IT’S NOT ALBERTA TODAY SAYING IT — IT’S THE RMWB 🚨

Mr. and Mrs. Brian Jean,

For weeks, Alberta Today has been accused of spreading misinformation.

So let’s be very clear.

The following words are not from Alberta Today.

They are not from a political opponent.

They are not from social media.

They come from a Stop Order issued by the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo on August 22, 2025.

According to the Stop Order, following a complaint and site inspection, the Municipality stated that the lands were being used for “Special Events” and that this use was not permitted in the Small Holdings District.

The Stop Order further directed that Special Events on the property cease.

Those are the Municipality’s findings.

Not Alberta Today’s.

So when Alberta Today reports on official documents, council videos, appeal hearings, and municipal enforcement actions, we are not inventing a story.

We are discussing matters that already exist in the public record.

The question many residents are asking is simple:

If Alberta Today is wrong, then why do municipal documents, council discussions, enforcement letters, appeal hearings, and Stop Orders keep appearing in the story?

We welcome corrections.

We welcome additional evidence.

We welcome explanations.

But attacking the messenger does not change what is written in official documents.

At the end of the day, Alberta Today did not issue the Stop Order.

The RMWB did.

And residents deserve to know why.

📄 Public records matter.
🎥 Council records matter.
⚖️ Equal application of the rules matters.

The public can review the evidence and decide for themselves.

06/23/2026

Alberta needs more leaders with courage.

Leaders who stand with communities when it matters.
Leaders who are not controlled by wealthy donors or lobbyists.
Leaders who speak for ordinary people, not powerful insiders.

Whether you agree with them on every issue or not, it takes courage to stand up for what you believe is right when the pressure is coming from all sides.

Alberta deserves public servants who answer to citizens first, not special interests.

🚨 EPISODE 7: THE COUNCILLOR ASKED. THE PLANNING DEPARTMENT ANSWERED. 🚨
Mrs. Brian Jean,

We were watching another RMWB council meeting video.
A councillor asked a question.
You provided an answer.
Then the councillor asked the Planning Department.
And that’s where things became very interesting.
Because the explanation from Administration appears to tell a different story.
Before anyone claims Alberta Today is attacking someone again, let’s be clear:

🎥 This is not Alberta Today’s statement.

🎥 This is not Alberta Today’s interpretation.

🎥 This is a public council meeting.

So perhaps you can help the public understand.
Which version should residents believe?

The answer given at the table?

Or the answer provided by the Planning Department?
We’re not accusing you of anything.

We’re simply asking for clarification.

After all, this entire controversy started because residents wanted answers about permits, development approvals, enforcement, and whether the same rules apply to everyone.

The more videos we watch, the more questions seem to appear.

And unfortunately for those hoping this story would disappear…
Council meetings are recorded.

Documents are public.
And facts have a habit of resurfacing.

Stay tuned.
Because Episode 8 is already loading.

🚨 EPISODE 6: THE VIDEO DISAGREES 🚨
Mrs. Brian Jean told Alberta Today:
“We have obtained all required permits.”
Fair enough.
But now we’ve found another RMWB council video, and the discussion recorded in that public meeting appears to tell a different story.
Before anyone says Alberta Today is making things up again, let’s be clear:
These are not Alberta Today’s words. These are discussions that took place in public meetings. These are concerns raised on the public record.
So now Albertans are left with a simple question:
If all required permits were in place, why were permit issues, unauthorized development concerns, and enforcement actions being discussed at council and before appeal boards?
Was council confused?
Was the municipality confused?
Or is there information the public still hasn’t been given?
The more documents and videos we review, the more questions seem to emerge.
Mrs. Jean suggests Alberta Today has a personal issue with her husband.
Respectfully, this story isn’t about whether we like or dislike anyone.
It’s about public records.
It’s about public meetings.
And it’s about whether the same rules apply to everyone.
We’ll continue reviewing the documents.
We’ll continue reviewing the videos.
And we’ll continue asking questions.
Because accountability is not hatred.
Transparency is not hatred.
And journalism is not hatred.
Watch the video and decide for yourself.

🚨 UCP’S WAR ON ALBERTA’S MOST VULNERABLE 🚨

The UCP government wants Albertans to believe they are helping people with disabilities.

The facts tell a different story.

More than 80,000 Albertans rely on disability benefits to survive. Instead of lifting people out of poverty, the UCP is cutting support and clawing back federal disability benefits.

Under the new ADAP program, many recipients will lose $200 every month.

Let that sink in.

These are not politicians losing $200.
These are not ministers losing $200.
These are Albertans struggling to pay rent, buy groceries, afford medication, and keep the lights on.

Experts have already warned that AISH recipients live below the poverty line.

Now the UCP is pushing them even deeper into poverty.

Alberta is the only province clawing back the federal Canada Disability Benefit.

While the government celebrates budget surpluses and corporate giveaways, people with disabilities are being told to survive on less.

The UCP says it is fighting poverty.

Albertans are asking a different question:

How can you fight poverty by making poor people poorer?

A government should be judged by how it treats its most vulnerable citizens.

And today, Alberta’s disabled community is paying the price for UCP priorities.

Cuts.
Clawbacks.
Excuses.

The Alberta government isn’t fighting poverty.

It’s balancing its books on the backs of people who can least afford it.

📢 ALBERTA TODAY RESPONSE

Mrs. Brian Jean,

Respectfully, whether I like your husband or dislike your husband is completely irrelevant.

You are married to him. It is your job to support him, not mine.

My job is to ask questions and report on matters of public interest.

You challenged me to provide proof.

Challenge accepted.

The document I referenced is not my opinion. It is a submission filed by the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo in SDAB File No. SDAB-2025-006.

According to the municipality’s own submission:

• The Development Authority issued a Stop Order on August 22, 2025.

• The Stop Order was issued because the lands were being used for “Special Events” without a development permit.

• The municipality stated that unauthorized development was taking place on the lands.

• The municipality stated that various development permit requirements remained outstanding.

These are not allegations created by Alberta Today.

These are statements contained in the municipality’s own legal submissions.

If there are additional documents that provide further context, we welcome them. We believe the public deserves to see all relevant information.

Unlike some, we are not afraid to ask difficult questions when public officials and politically connected individuals are involved.

Our goal is simple:

Transparency.
Accountability.
Equal application of the rules.

The same rules should apply to everyone.

And Mrs. Jean, you are always welcome to respond on Alberta Today. We welcome civil discussion and the presentation of evidence from all sides.

The public can review the facts and decide for themselves.

🚨 ALBERTA TODAY | EV TAX: PUNISHING ALBERTANS FOR GOING GREEN? 🚨

While the federal government has spent years encouraging Canadians to switch to electric vehicles through rebates and incentives, the Alberta government is moving in the opposite direction.

Starting February 13, 2025, Alberta EV owners must pay an additional $200 annual tax when registering or renewing their vehicle.

Albertans were told electric vehicles would help reduce emissions, lower fuel costs, and modernize transportation. Many families invested tens of thousands of dollars into EVs based on those promises.

Now, instead of rewarding innovation, the UCP government is charging EV owners an extra tax.

So Albertans have a right to ask:

❓ What is Danielle Smith’s real goal?

❓ If electric vehicles are part of Alberta’s future, why punish people who chose them?

❓ Why is Alberta creating new taxes while other governments offer incentives?

❓ Is this about road maintenance or is it another political message aimed at people who don’t fit the UCP’s preferred narrative?

EV owners already pay registration fees, insurance, and other taxes like everyone else. Adding a special tax on one type of vehicle sends a clear message: if you choose differently, you’ll pay more.

Whether you drive an EV or not, every Albertan should be concerned when governments start creating targeted taxes on personal choices.

Albertans deserve policies that encourage innovation, not penalties that discourage it.

What do you think? Is the EV tax fair, or is Alberta moving backwards?

🚨 EPISODE 5: WE FOLLOW THE RULES. THEY BREAK THEM. 🚨

This is the Alberta injustice residents are talking about.

Ordinary homeowners know the process:

Apply.
Wait for approval.
Receive permits.
Then start construction.

That’s how the rules work for everyone else.

But residents have been asking a troubling question:

Was construction allowed to begin before approvals were in place?

And if so, why?

Now another question is being raised:

Did taxpayers spend approximately $100 million on infrastructure that benefited access to a politically connected property?

Albertans work hard for their tax dollars.

They deserve answers.
They deserve transparency.
They deserve to know whether the same rules apply to everyone.

This series isn’t about special treatment.

It’s about equal treatment.

Because when ordinary people are expected to follow every rule, the public has every right to ask whether powerful politicians are held to the same standard.

Watch the video.
Review the timeline.
Ask the questions.

The residents have been asking them for years.
