A quilt show is always more than the quilts on display. It is the conversations, the questions, the close-up looks at stitching, and the chance to spend time with people who understand the work that goes into every quilt.

Finely Quilted will be at the Claresholm Art Society Quilt Show on May 22 and 23, 2026 at the Claresholm Community Centre.

We’ll have APQS longarm quilting machines available to try, and we’re happy to answer questions about quilting, machines, rentals, or where to begin.

The Millie30 has a 30-inch throat space!

That extra space gives more room between the needle and the body of the machine, which can help when working on larger blocks, wider designs or quilting paths that need more travel before advancing the quilt.

More room can make certain designs feel less interrupted.

One reason many quilters appreciate stitch regulation on APQS machines is consistency at different speeds!

When you slow down around points or speed up through curves, the machine adjusts stitch length to help keep the quilting even. We think that support can make a big difference while learning free motion quilting!

Happy Mother’s Day to the women who taught us, encouraged us, corrected our seams, shared their fabric or simply made room for us to create.

Quilting has a way of carrying those connections forward.

Today, we’re thinking of the mothers, grandmothers, aunties, friends and makers whose hands helped shape the quilts and the people around them.

If a quilt top feels wavy along the borders, the fabric may have stretched slightly during piecing or pressing.

One way to help prevent this is to measure the quilt through the center before adding borders then cut the borders to that measurement instead of attaching full fabric lengths directly from the bolt.

Small preparation steps like this can help the quilt load more smoothly and reduce fullness during quilting!

We’re looking forward to being part of the Central Alberta Quilt Show in Red Deer and connecting with quilters from across the region.

As your local APQS dealer, Finely Quilted will be on site with longarm quilting machines available to try, and we’re always happy to talk through options, answer questions, and share what we know. Hosted by the Central Alberta Quilters’ Guild at Westerner Park, this long-running show is a welcoming place to explore inspiring work and enjoy time immersed in quilting. This year, the show features Canadian quilter and educator Kim Caskey.

If you’re attending the show, we’d love for you to stop by, try the machines, and visit with us. Whether you’re just curious or thinking ahead, we’re always happy to help you explore what’s possible.
