Fishing is in my blood. My father and grandfather began teaching me to tie flies at the age of six and the hook was set. My parents and grandparents before them were all avid anglers in both fresh and saltwater, and for me Salmonid fishing and tackle design is a passion and a natural fit. My two young boys have been coming out on the water with me since before they could walk. In the endeavour of

Great morning in the office with out of testing out some new super top secret colour patterns for Chinook…they work! We also hit the current change for some nice halibut action and the trap was stuffed with monster Dungeness crab. Roy definitely has his systems dialed in and I’m always grateful to pick up some of his wise ways! Tons of fish out there folks; get out there!

Coho are filling in the Salish Sea and lots of healthy fish this year, both hatchery marked and not. It’s always great when 3 generations of the Paine family get out fishing, and a great bonus with fish like this! Get out there with your family! 3” has been the ticket.

It’s nice having customers come by the workshop to pick up custom orders…especially when they bring along derby winning fishing stories! Congrats to Don Orr and Gerry Egeland on winning the recent Sidney Anglers' Association Salmon Enhancement Fundraiser Derby ($17,000 raised!) on a trusty AP Sandlance Spoon! Our little shop in Esquimalt isn’t really a retail store, but we do offer local pickup of online and custom orders. Our most popular spoons can be found around Victoria at Trotac Marine Ltd., Island Outfitters, and soon at Rite Angle Marine Store

We are often asked how to choose a lure to fish with and our top answer is: match the feed. On this day 2” AP Herring Spoon on one side and 5” on the other did the trick and the belly showed why!

Happy New Year to everyone! One of the 2022 highlights for us was hearing the story of Savanah Plank and family taking home 1st in the Sitka Salmon Derby with one our lures that the kids chose at Orion Sporting Goods in Sitka, Alaska. It doesn’t get much better than that. Congrats on your catch and memories for life!

Sometimes…less is more! Introducing the 2” in both a trolling and casting/jigging thickness to match that tiny bait. Annnnnd, 3” casting spoons of all 3 shapes. These little firecrackers have blown our minds with the variety of catches and we can’t wait to see what everyone reels in with them!
