❤️Today at OHS...An innocent young puppy named Lucky from the South Okanagan is fighting for his life.
After being found alone and gravely ill by compassionate community members, Lucky was rushed to Peach City Animal Hospital, where he tested positive for parvovirus (parvo).
Acting quickly, OHS did not hesitate in saying YES to try and save Lucky's life, organizing transfer for the young pup to isolation care at Spall & Harvey Animal Hospital
For the past three days, Lucky has been receiving intensive treatment, including IV fluids, IV antibiotics, and around-the-clock supportive care as veterinary teams work tirelessly to save him.
Parvo is a highly contagious and potentially fatal disease that primarily affects puppies and unvaccinated dogs. There is no direct cure, and treatment can cost thousands of dollars, but early intervention can significantly improve survival rates.
An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure not only to avoid a life-threatening illness for your puppy, but also potentially thousands of dollars in veterinary care.
With parvo continuing to impact communities throughout the Okanagan and across British Columbia, puppies should begin their vaccination series as early as 6–8 weeks of age and remain up to date on booster vaccines.
Please consider making a donation through our Raffle to Rescue campaign to help support Lucky's life-saving care. Every ticket purchased and donation made helps us continue saying "yes" when animals like Lucky need us most.
