“The biggest barriers are often assumptions.”
As we recognize National AccessAbility Week, this scene from Lost highlights something many people with disabilities experience: others deciding what they can or cannot do before they’re given the opportunity to be heard.
To be clear, this post isn’t about whether John Locke could have completed the walkabout. It’s about the assumption that he couldn’t.
Accessibility isn’t about pretending barriers don’t exist. It’s about challenging assumptions, removing unnecessary barriers, and ensuring people are included in conversations about their own lives.
Sometimes the biggest obstacle isn’t a disability… it’s being underestimated.
