☘️ Come Travel With Me
Chapter Four — Why I Keep Going Back

I've been fortunate to travel to many wonderful places.

But there are some places that fill my soul in a way I can't quite explain.

Ireland is one of them.

I've been there before. I've walked its roads, explored its villages, visited its castles and textile treasures, been fortunate to teach and lecture for guilds and groups, and shared it with wonderful travellers.

And yet...
I keep going back.

Why?

Maybe it's the way the landscape seems to change every few minutes.

One moment you're driving through brilliant green countryside, and the next you're standing beside the sea with wind coming off the Atlantic.

Maybe it's the villages—with their colourful buildings, little shops, flowers spilling over stone walls and, if you're lucky, the sound of traditional music drifting through an open door.

Maybe it's the history.

The stories woven into ancient castles, ruined abbeys, old mills and the landscapes themselves.

Or perhaps it's simply the people.

That warmth.

That wonderful Irish ability to make a conversation with a complete stranger feel like you've known each other forever.

And then there are the textiles.

Linen.
Lace.
Wool.
Weaving.
Embroidery.

The hands and stories behind them.

That's a particularly special part of Ireland for me—and one of the reasons I love introducing my travellers to the Ireland that exists beyond the obvious tourist stops.

But perhaps the real reason I keep going back is simpler than all of that.
Ireland still makes me curious.

And I think that's one of the greatest gifts a place can give us.

The feeling that there's always something more to discover.

💚 Kim's Reflection
I don't think we ever truly finish discovering a place we love. We simply return with new eyes—and find something waiting for us that we didn't notice before.

And in 2027, I'm going back.

I'd love for you to come with me.

☘️ Come Travel With Me

Chapter 3 — The Best Memories Aren't Always on the Itinerary

Sometimes, despite all the planning, the itinerary changes.

And when it does, I have a choice.

I can be disappointed that Plan A didn't work...
or I can say:

"Okay. Let's see what adventure Plan B has waiting for us."

On our recent London–Birmingham Quilt & Textile Tour, our planned visit to the Hand & Lock embroidery atelier had to be changed when our guide became ill.

Disappointing? Absolutely.

But our wonderful team quickly found another experience for us—a Haute Couture walking tour through St. James', Jermyn Street and Savile Row.

And off we went!

We explored the world of bespoke British tailoring, peeked into basement studios and actually saw tailors at work. We discovered the building where the Beatles gave their final live performance on the rooftop in 1969.

And then, completely unexpectedly, we stumbled upon Fortnum & Mason—with its spectacular display of bees and that gorgeous staircase inside.

None of those moments were on our original itinerary.

And that's precisely the point.

They were gifts from the journey.

I've learned over the years that travel requires a little surrender.

I'll make the plans. I'll research, organize, coordinate and confirm. I'll have a Plan B (and probably a Plan C!). 😂

But once we set off, I want my travellers to be open to the possibility that something unexpected might become the highlight of the day.

Because sometimes...

Plan B is where the magic happens.

💚 Kim's Reflection
The best journeys aren't necessarily the ones where everything goes according to plan. They're the ones where we're willing to follow the unexpected path and discover where it leads.

☘️ Come Travel With Me
Chapter Two – The Thread That Brings Us Together

When I look at this photograph, I don't just see a group of travellers enjoying lunch.
I see friendships taking shape.

It's one of my favourite parts of every Quilt & Textile Tour.

People arrive from different cities, different provinces, and sometimes different countries. Many have never met before.

Yet somewhere between the first cup of coffee, the first quilt exhibition, and the conversations shared around a table like this...
..something changes.

By the end of the journey, they're no longer travelling alongside one another.
They're travelling with one another.

People often tell me that I host Quilt & Textile Tours.

They're right.

But only partly.

Yes, we visit remarkable exhibitions, textile museums, weaving studios and hidden fabric shops.

Those experiences are the thread that brings us together.

But it's the friendships...

The laughter...

The shared discoveries...
..that become the memories we carry home.

I've always believed that the best journeys are measured not only by the places we visit, but by the people we meet along the way.

💚 Kim's Reflection
Some of the strongest stitches in our lives are the friendships we never expected to make.

The world is waiting...

Come travel with me.

I've just unpacked my suitcase. Well... almost.

The laundry is done, the sleep schedule is returning to this time zone, and the bits of fabric and treasures have been earmarked for projects. The hundreds of photographs are waiting to be organized into albums while reliving every wonderful moment.

But the truth is, the hardest thing to unpack isn't in my suitcase at all. It's the memories.

The laughter shared over dinner after a day of exploring.

The quiet moments standing together in front of an extraordinary quilt that has survived for centuries.

The excitement of discovering a tiny textile shop hidden down a side street.

The friendships that somehow grow stronger with every mile we travel together.

People often ask me why I keep hosting Quilt & Textile Tours. The answer has never been the destinations.

It's the people.

It's watching someone experience a place they've dreamed about for years.

It's hearing, "I never would have found this on my own."

It's seeing complete strangers become friends before the journey is over.

Every tour leaves a little piece of itself with me.

And every time I return home, I find myself dreaming about the next adventure.

Over the coming weeks, I'd love to share some of those stories with you. The places that took my breath away, the unexpected moments, the remarkable people, and the little discoveries that made this latest journey so special.

One of my favourite moments from our recent journey had nothing to do with quilts.

It was two wonderful travellers trying on hats, laughing like old friends, and reminding me that travel isn't just about the places we visit...

It's about giving ourselves permission to play.

Those are often the moments we remember most.

The world is waiting.
Come travel with me.
