I was being interviewed today by a thoughtful and inspired student who brought up so many Daisy memories. I told her about this post from and I thought I would share it with you!
“So, this was a full circle moment.
Last week, a film crew was working on a “small town America” holiday rom-com nearby and they parked one of their set & supply trucks in front of our store to unload Christmas garlands and trees.
In 2018, I parked the booktruck there because I was attending a pop up market. Vendors were set up inside Maina’s, and . I had been asked to bring the booktruck and park out front. Eager to take Daisy anywhere, I said yes. But it was October and the temperature was too cold to be outside, so it was a non-event for this bookseller.
I closed the truck and visited the inside market vendors. Bought a leather bracelet from that I am wearing right now.
Then I saw next to Maina’s a vacant space. I put my face closer to the window and cupped my cold hands around my eyes to see inside better. I took photos of the exterior and texted Hubs “do you think one day we can get an address as well as a licence plate?” We checked out the space, determined that it was far too big and we had no right to be that ambitious so early. A bookshop on wheels was risky enough.
Fast forward to 2022 and I was doing deliveries in Beaumont and saw that the space was still vacant. On Main St. In a beautiful building with great companion businesses. And we were considering a second location. 🤔
Now we call it home.
Seeing the film props truck in front of my store took me right back to the wide-eyed dreamer with her cold hands cupped around her eyes, wondering if it could possibly work.
I looked down at the bracelet on my wrist, shook my head, and took this photo. It’s an incredible adventure to not know what the next chapter holds.”
