AC1723 The Crabapple in Blossom: Paint Marker & Watercolour - w/Justina Smith - July 25

Beginner Friendly!
In this workshop we’ll be creating a mixed media piece on paper using gouache or watercolour and acrylic paint marker. We’ll talk about how to layer these media, where to use each to help achieve depth and draw the viewers eye around the piece and how to create interesting details. Participants should be comfortable with drawing.

We’ll go over some basic watercolour techniques for those who are brand new to using gouache and watercolour. During the class we’ll all create one piece together.

Justina is a self-taught artist based in Vermilion, Alberta. She has been painting and selling her work for over 20 years and sharing her love of painting, drawing, and mixed media through teaching for 15 years. Her work has been shown in galleries across Canada and can be found in many private collections in Canada, the US and the UK. She loves to share her creative processes and what she is working on through her Instagram account, so give her a follow if you want to know what she is currently working on.

Want to learn all about painting on silk and walk away with your very own scarf? Learn to paint a silk scarf from start to finish! In this 2-day class, Anastasia will guide you through the silk painting history, deep-dive painting process, how to apply water based resist, how to heat-set your scarf for the ready-to-wear. At the end of your class, you will go home with your very own stunning creations – two beautifully painted, personalized silk scarves!

Anastasia has a flair for silk painting. She has been painting on fabrics for more than 15 years. She has classes on the subject on online platforms like Skillshare and YouTube. Art has always been a huge part of her life and a couple of years ago she decided to dive in, be the artist she always wanted to be, and share it with you. She is very excited to be teaching art to you next!

Day 1-2 are all about calming the critic and connecting to your creative parts with Deanna's Regenerative Creativity process.

Then on Day 3-5 Ariana will show you how to bring the human form to your canvas with purposeful shortcuts to keep you creating. You will leave with a personal painting that is uniquely you.

I am a creativity educator and advocate with over 20 years of experience guiding youth and adults in an exploration of self. I believe the physical act of painting while asking questions can bring forth gifts of healing, insight, and joy. Create in community through guided demonstrations where you will practice painting techniques while listening for information from you. The goal is self expression, curiosity and being present in the process. The painting you create is an artifact of your experience!

Figurative work improves with more practice. Drawing from a live model is the best way to practice fundamental techniques as well as expand existing skills in a variety of media. Discover your individual drawing style in this self-guided session. Whether you are a beginner or a seasoned artist, these sessions offer you a live model from which to draw, paint or sculpt.

Attendees must be at least 18 years old to attend.
