Trapunto

Trapunto Quilting fabric, needlecraft & quilting services We are passionate about the brands we carry, looking to bring fresh and unique fabric to Edmonton.

Trapunto – "to quilt" in Italian (we're not Italian) is a family business that started in 2016 as a way to share our love of quality fabric and notions with others. Our brick and mortar opened in March 2019, and we are so thrilled to bring another sewing store to the south-central of Edmonton. You can't buy happiness, but you can buy fabric, and that's pretty close.

Ready for pre-order! Legendary is Tula Pink’s newest collection commemorating her 20th year!

It seemed fitting that this milestone should be marked with creatures of myth and legend to celebrate the things that go beyond the limitations of our reality. Legendary showcases my favorite animals of myth like the Unicorn, Pegasus, Hippocampus, Phoenix, Fairy and of course, a Dragon but a pretty one.

2026 Day 11 - Studio Friends

I have four Helpers/QC Inspectors! Nyx, Pollux, Dobby & Winky.

Nyx and Pollux will be 18(!!!) on April 1st this year. I got them off a farm and they were soooo teeny tiny. They are the first kittens I’ve ever had and they have been there through so much.

Nyx the Tortie has always been her own woman, tolerating the rest in good form. She has gotten a bit soft in her old age and loves a cuddle.

Pollux is my big Tabby boy, now my old man. He isnalmost always with me when I am sewing. We got Dobby as a friend for him as Nyx was not as keen on playing with him as they got older and he got much bigger than her.

Dobby is a Balinese and he will be 8 this year. Yes, he is named after a certain house elf and has grown into his ears! He is a bit of a s**t disturber and will interject himself into everything. He tries very hard to be a good boy.

Winky is a Siamese despite her spots and stripes. She will be 5 at the end of this year. Her name comes from one of the other house elves that is in the books, but not the movies. She is a very sweet, somewhat shy and timid girl, but such a little weirdo too.

Day 7 - Lessons Learned

Okay this one might get a little cerebral, bear with me.

A concept I picked up in art school is Self Design. Familiar with a camel is a horse designed by committee?

At the heart of it, it tells us to be our true selves as artists. Be authentic, honest, and uncompromising in your work instead of pandering to popularity. Make what you wanna make, be who you wanna be, and your people will find you.

I struggled A LOT in art school. I contemplated switching majors because the art I was making was not valued in the same way as my classmates who were more commercial leaning. Think fashion or advertisement type work. It took me a while to understand that there is a place for that work and it’s okay if I’m not in it because I really didn’t enjoy it.

My work focused on a lot of everyday things. Things people see, but don’t look at. I stuck with it, and I even managed to get published with the photograph you see here.

As a creative, it is so easy to fall into the if-I-follow-X-trend or make things in X style or follow another’s steps exactly, I’ll be successful. Many folks, including myself sometimes, get caught up in seeing how productive others are, or what others are making, then we shame and guilt ourselves for not having the same output, style, accolades, or “success” — whatever that might look like.

I full on HATE how modern society only values art if it makes money. Art is not usually practical, or logical, or something meant to be liked en masse.

We have lost so much by minimalizing, conforming, and cheapening everything. Mass production has spoiled and robbed us of appreciating craftsmanship and the value of handmade. Colour is being taken away, too! The beigification of society is a very real thing.

What I’m trying to say is try not to worry about what other people are doing or compare yourself to others. Do what you love to do exactly your way and by doing that, it will be high quality work because you enjoy doing it, and the people who are meant to find your work will find and enjoy it.

- Day 6 Quilty Fashion

My contribution to today’s prompt is my denim jacket. I found my inspiration on Instagram, seeing people playing with weaving fabric to make a quilt. I decided why not hack away at my jacket and see what I can do.

So, I cut the back of my coat into strips and wove some fabric I enjoy.

I have been considering taking it out and doing some kind of sashiko and boro combo. Something to ponder for a while yet.

Aside from that, I have a quilted jacket I would like to do at some point, I would love to try knitting a sweater for myself, and I have a massive giant hoodie I would like to make one day too! Seeing all the fashion shared at this year’s QuiltCon is just so fun and inspiring.

Day 5

Why Do You Make Stuff?

Because I like to!

Making stuff makes me think in different ways, it challenges me, keeps the grey matter going, is a form of self expression, and makes me feel accomplished when I finish something.

As much as I like being on screens, I also like my analogue time. Having slow time to work on something and listen to music or a podcast is a nice thing to enjoy. I like tangible things that I have when it’s done. Projects literally show me my progress in not only finishing something, but how my skill got better the more I did it.

Even if all I can manage is a row or one seam, I got that row or seam done!

- Day 4

My Space / Behind the Scenes

Well, it looks much different than last year, but I am happy with my little nook. Mission control has moved from one desk to another. I still have a big window to look out of. I like seeing the seasons change. The big tree is so lush in summer and in winter, the squirrel and birds will sit on the branches. I also occasionally let my cats in, and they are always eager to “help”. It’s fairly neat at the moment which is a bonus. I am making plans for the rest of the room to be more of a creative space. It’ll happen in time.

You can see my sewing things on the right and some of my gaming things on the left. I have been streaming video games for around 5 years now, and I enjoy sharing games with my friends and others that join to watch me play.

I also am starting to share my making on YouTube and this is the space where I film those videos. While I am still trying to figure out the channel and “who I am” on YouTube, I’m happy with what I’ve published there so far. I think one hurdle is that, until recently, I was not very open about my sewing hobby. It was a point of teasing and mocking when I was younger, so I hid it. I was also not of the mindset that I would be making videos or sharing my process with others. Being at the store and finding a huge community of like minded sewing freaks has been very encouraging to not only participate openly, but share! So, if I come across as awkward, well, part of that is who I am and part of that is me trying to find my way through nerves toward confidence in myself and my craft.
