Sunday Update!

We are excited to announce that from 1 to 4 pm, our shop will host a final opportunity for community members to make their voices heard by participating in the Water Not Coal petition. A dedicated canvasser will be on-site to collect signatures, and this is a wonderful chance for you to join us in advocating for a sustainable future. Your signature matters, and together we can contribute to a movement that prioritizes the health of our environment over harmful practices. We encourage everyone to come down, engage in meaningful conversation, and be part of this crucial initiative before it’s too late!

Social Media Update:

It is with a heavy heart that we share some unfortunate news with our cherished community. Just a week ago, on May 26, our Instagram account has been disabled due to someone trying to gain unauthorized access, an unforeseen twist in our digital journey. For nearly nine years, we've relied on Instagram and Facebook as vital platforms to connect with you, our loyal customers, sharing updates on new and restocked arrivals in our shop. This setback is disheartening but we are resolute in our commitment to ensure an ongoing connection with you, nurturing the vibrant community we have built together over the years, To keep you informed and engaged, we will be transitioning to email and FB communication at least a couple times each week, ensuring that you stay updated on all the happenings in our shop. Stay tuned, because this isn't the end of our story—it's merely a new chapter waiting to unfold!

In our background, we are working to reestablish use of our IG account. If successful, we will be sure to let you know!

Wednesday update…🪡♥️

After Sunday’s Crafternoon at Metro Cinema, restock goodies returned to the shop with Leslie. Included in the mix are these two new embroidery kit designs.

Murriel, the kits’ creator, is an Edmonton-based embroidery artist. In her words, she “has now developed her own unique style of embroidery that sets her apart from the crowd. Creating her own embroidery series she calls “Embroidmonton” inspired by iconic Edmonton landmarks, Murriel has been able to share her love of her hometown through her art. She also has experience with threadpainting (as seen in her pet portraits) and loves mixing medias such as incorporating watercolour backgrounds on her pieces.”

Murriel’s kits fly out our door 🚪 Don’t delay if you want to see these new design options 🥰

We also have .embirdery & .quilting products still to be updated in our system. Watch for our Saturday post, which will include those details.

And, restock arrived yesterday, including Granny (Square) Blockers ♥️

It’s Victoria Day OR May Long Weekend Monday, & our shop will be open our regular 12-4pm hours. Do drop on by & say hello to Diana & Jenna ♥️

TFN folks like history (among other passions) & here’s a tidbit from a Queen Victoria angle…”Queen Victoria was a lifelong avid knitter and crocheter, and she also spun. Though she probably only did handiwork because she enjoyed it, her taste for it had far-reaching effects. Prior to the early nineteenth century, knitting was a folk art and a cottage industry, something the poor did from necessity and to earn a living…In the nineteenth century, knitting became something all socioeconomic classes did, partly because of the rise of the popular press and the subsequent availability of printed knitting patterns, partly because of technical advances in the production of knitting needles and the introduction of standardized size needles, but also and in no small part because Queen Victoria elevated the status of knitting by setting a royal example. By the end of Queen Victoria’s life every ‘properly’ brought-up young girl in Western society was taught to knit as a matter of course, regardless of her family’s economic status. Queen Victoria probably had a very salutary effect on crocheting as well, as crocheting did not even exist long before 1800, but became a common craft in less than a century…as much as she liked to knit, QV was not all that skilled in the art. There’s a story told that on one occasion, Victoria was visiting a Scottish household near Balmoral Castle and presented her hostess with a pair of socks that she had knitted herself. There was an elderly woman also present who was hard of hearing and hadn’t grasped the visitor’s identity, and who loudly remarked, “If her man gets no better made socks than that, I pity him.” Fortunately, Her Majesty was amused.” Source: http://theknittingneedleandthedamagedone.blogspot.com/2013/04/queen-victorias-royal-example.html

However you spend your day, enjoy it 😊☀️🌸🌼🌷🌻

Saturdays in the shop…♥️

Images 1-3: New in stock — 1-pound cones — Approximately 880 yards per pound — 2-ply mule spun — For knitters, the yarn is considered a medium or worsted weight wool 🐑

This is 100% Traceable Alberta Wool. The yarn begins with fleeces purchased directly from family-run farms in Alberta. By working with heritage & specialty breeds, Traceable Textiles produces a yarn with the right balance of strength, softness, drape & durability for weaving blankets or use in other handmade projects. The wool is carefully sorted & graded by hand before being spun at Custom Woolen Mills, thereby keeping the entire process local, transparent & traceable from farm to cone.

In their own words, “At Traceable Textiles, based in Edmonton, Alberta, our mission is to blend tradition with innovation, crafting 100% wool [yarn that is] not only beautiful but also environmentally and socially responsible. Rooted in the heart of Alberta, we proudly collaborate with local farms and mills, ensuring that every step of our process lowers our footprint and supports our community while maintaining the highest standards of quality.”

Images 4-11: products have been restocked:
- Large & small notions tins (small patch design & hand poured resin lids)

Wednesday update…♥️

It’s all about the 📝

Images 2-5: On Saturday, we mentioned the spring Knit Basics class w/Ann had 3 seats around the table available. Update: there are now 2. This is an intimate learn to knit 🧶 experience that always sees registrants leaving the shop in smiles. The maximum number of seats is 6. Starts tomorrow/Thursday/May 7th from 6-8 pm. Runs 4 weeks.

Images 6-7: Registrants in the Knit Basics class that finished up last Thursday evening, asked for a Basic Hat (Knit in the Round) class. We figured out a plan in order to respond to this ask & Clifton is lined up to teach … Wednesdays, May 13 & 26 from 6-8 pm, with a week off in between for homework knitting 🧶

This class will cover knitting in the round, joining yarn ensuring that it is not twisted, making decreases & practice in pattern reading. Participants will knit the Barley Hat from TinCanKnits. We are grateful to Tin Can Knits for the use of their free patterns & related photo imagery.

Registration for each class is easy to do via our online shop’s Learning Opportunities page…
