There is something magical about a plant that teaches patience.
Last year, these hellebores gifted me only a couple of blooms very late in the season. This spring, they have truly arrived—and I couldn't be happier.
Emerging through last year's leaves while much of the garden is only beginning to wake, hellebores have become one of my favourite flowers. They bloom at the threshold between winter and spring, carrying associations of resilience, transformation, hidden wisdom, and the quiet strength found in difficult seasons.
I am especially drawn to their connection with shadow work and the Dark Goddess—the reminder that growth does not only happen in the light. Some of our deepest transformations begin beneath the surface, unseen, long before they reveal themselves to the world.
These blooms frequently find their way into the creations I make for Hawthorn & Oak, and seeing them flourish in my own garden feels like a special gift this year.
A reminder from the hellebore:
✨ Growth is happening, even when you cannot yet see it. ✨
