Multidisciplinary Artist Lise King (CRI®-CRWI®)
Lise is a multidisciplinary artist and art instructor from Northern Canada, dedicated to creating thoughtful, balanced artworks that reflect her journey of self-discovery. She invests her soul into her paintings, sharing her perspective on the world and uncovering deeper self-awareness through her expressive art. Whether working as a realist, impressionist, or abstract artist, she aims to engage viewers' senses. In abstract work, she lets the movement of paint inspire her creativity. She sees art as a convergence of her life experiences, self-exploration, mindfulness, and meditation — a constantly evolving path that grounds her as she works. By exploring various mediums and interactive tools, Lise experiments with colours, textures, and layers to bring movement, depth, and form to her paintings, whether realistic or abstract. Her art reflects life's rich layers, twists, and turns, enabling her to express her mental images in a uniquely personal way. She believes art mirrors life’s journey, growing through diverse experiences into intricate, colourful mosaics that viewers can enjoy.

As an enthusiastic art instructor, she passionately imparts her creative skills to her students, igniting their imagination and inspiring them to express themselves through their artwork.

🚨 Landmark ruling in Europe for GEMA and creators’ rights

The Munich Regional Court has ruled in favour of GEMA in its case against OpenAI, confirming that the use of copyright-protected works to train and operate AI systems without permission infringes copyright law.
This marks the first court decision in Europe to affirm that AI providers must respect the rights of authors when using creative works in their models.
GEMA, a CISAC member representing more than 100,000 songwriters, composers, and music publishers, brought the case after identifying protected song lyrics reproduced by ChatGPT without authorisation or payment.
Today’s ruling sets an important precedent for all creators whose works are used to train AI technologies. It reinforces a principle that is central to CISAC’s mission: creative work has value, and creators deserve fair remuneration.
CISAC commends GEMA for its leadership in defending authors’ rights and advancing fair standards for the use of creative works in the digital era.

Major step forward for the Artists’ Resale Right in Canada 🇨🇦

The Government of Canada has included the Artist’s Resale Right in the Federal Budget, ensuring visual artists will be able to share in the ongoing value of their works.

CISAC welcomes this important step, following joint advocacy with CARFAC and RAAV earlier this year, highlighting the ARR’s significance for visual artists, including Indigenous and emerging creators.

The Artist’s Resale Right is a royalty that allows artists to share in the wealth they generate in the marketplace. It aligns Canada with over 90 countries around the world that already have ARR legislation. Many of those laws provide for visual artists to receive 5% when their work is resold in the secondary market through an intermediary such as an auction house or commercial gallery.
