Here’s the latest on gear restrictions….

We have 1.5 months to sell a seasons worth of treble hooks and teaser heads. So all treble hooks will be 40% off and rigged teaser heads will come with two tandem singles (gift from Stillwater)at no extra cost. We do not agree with DFO on this short notice. Let’s hope a law suit is put forth to recoupe money lost in products for Lodges, Guides, retail stores and the average recreational angler.
Insufficient timing and time. Keeping fishermen and women in the dark until the last second. Once again DFO has lost the confidence of the fishing community. Good Job!!! 👍🏻

TIDAL GEAR UPDATE 🚨

Subject: FN0723-RECREATIONAL Salmon - All salmon - Areas 1 to 29, 101 to 111, 121, 123 to 127, 130 and 142 - Coastwide tidal water gear requirements - Effective September 1, 2026

To improve the survival of salmon being released by recreational fishers in tidal waters and support greater returns of stocks of concern to spawning grounds, thereby creating the next generation of salmon, the Department is introducing the following changes to the fishing gear permitted when fishing for salmon effective September 1, 2026:

Using a hook having more than one point (e.g., a treble hook) is no longer permitted when fishing for salmon in tidal waters; and

Using a single hook with a measurement greater than 22 millimeters from point to shank is not permitted when fishing for salmon in tidal waters (i.e., the gap width of the hook must be 22 mm or less when fishing for salmon).

These new gear measures apply to all tidal waters in the Pacific Region: Areas 1 to 29, 101 to 111, 121, 123 to 127, 130 and 142.

For clarity, the use of more than one single hook is permitted (e.g., using two single hooks in a tandem set up is permitted).

Heads up! Your annual freshwater fishing licence expires at the end of today. April 1st is the start of the new licence year, and you'll need a 2026-27 licence to fish non-tidal waters in B.C. Get one through the WILD system: https://www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/sports-culture/recreation/fishing-hunting/fishing/recreational-freshwater-fishing-licence

Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) is considering eliminating the principle that salmon are a public resource to be managed for the benefit of all Canadians in its new Salmon Allocation Policy.

First Nations are asking DFO to eliminate this principle from the policy that will guide allocation of salmon among First Nations Food, Ceremonial and Social fisheries, First Nations treaty-based fisheries, non-Indigenous recreational fishers, and commercial fisheries.

The changes proposed are a radical shift in the principles that govern conservation and access to public resources, removing existing recreational fishing opportunities, and curtailing public access to salmon.
