You may ask yourself, why are there toothbrushes and lip balms at the bookstore?

Well, we could make a cheeky comment about keeping your smiles bright behind your masks, and that would be true. But the actual truth is: because they're fun. And we're always down for fun. Why not add a little whimsy and inspiration to your morning routine?

We know, we know. It's still so early! But we are also seeing the impacts of supply chain shortages and bottlenecks, and that won't ease up before December. Here's what you can do:

* Pre-order new releases, online or by contacting us
* Place your special orders now, for the best chance at getting what you want
* Don't panic! If we can't get our hands on a particular title for you, for whatever reason: this fall is absolutely overflowing with excellent books. Our expert bookmongers will help you find a back-up!

(Have we mentioned just how many awesome books are coming out this fall? This stack represents only a teeny portion!)

October Reading Challenge: a fiction book in a genre you don't usually read. For me, that meant straight fiction. No ghosts, magic, spaceships, time travel. No intrepid teens with links to ancient dieties or mythological creatures. No pixie dust, pirate ships, talking animals or telepathy.

Third time's the charm, I guess! After two short-lived attempts (the books were fine, just...not for me!) this one hit the bulls-eye.

What are you reading on this sunny Sunday?

New from Pulitzer-Prize winner Anthony Doerr, "Cloud Cuckoo Land" is a delight. Now, if you're looking to replicate exactly the experience of "All the Light We Cannot See," this may not be the book for you. BUT. If you like books about stories, written by a master storyteller with an exquisite sense of the magic of language, then we suggest immersing yourself in "Cloud Cuckoo Land".

Erin here! Our October Reading Challenge is a fiction book in a genre you don't usually read. Trying to choose a book for the month, I realized the one thing I rarely read is just plain fiction. So here goes! What will you read this month? And how did your September Challenge go? Tell us all about it!

Ed Talk: Sophie Pierre - Traditional Relationship With This Land

Now that we've marked Canada's first National Day for Truth and Reconciliation...what's next? It's not enough to wear an orange shirt and call it good. We hope you'll join us in continuing to learn, to take action, and to work on both the Truth and the Reconciliation parts of the equation.

Are you unsure how to involve your littles in marking Truth and Reconciliation Day? We have a few ideas for you.

CBC Kids has a youtube playlist here: https://bit.ly/3EJGdNP

Of course, we've always got some reading ideas: https://bit.ly/3kIvBXJ

Cranbrook Pulbic Library also has an excellent book display for Sept. 30th.

And we'd especially like to mention the awesome story books available at Skinkuȼ Treasures in the Tamarack Centre.

Thanks for the fantastic service Huckleberry Books! As I lay in a hospital bed without book or paper, and without friends in Cranbrook who could bring either to me, an employee named Vicky at Huckleberry Books went above and beyond. I'm a creative writer (author of Butterflies in the System and Sky-bound Misfit) and was getting quite bored without any writing material. Vicky saved the day by going out of her way to drop off some materials for me. It is employees like Vicky that make all the difference: thanks Vicky!!
Celebrate this Summer with Noam coming this fall 2 more adventures Noam celebrates Halloween and Christmas
Yesterday I received my last of three monthly gifts from a very sweet family. They organized that Erin from Huckleberry Books would deliver a book, chocolate and usually tea to my house. I am not known to sit down for long but having the luxury and time for sitting down and reading a book, while sipping tea and eating chocolate has been glorious! Thank you to the Mike Hambalek family including Melissa and Milana for your thoughtfulness and to Erin and the team at Huckleberry Books for making this happen. It is quite heartwarming. ❤️
I wasn't quite sure what to do with this once I finished. Hope this is right! Here is my book spine poem:
Erin, I just heard you on CBC's North by Northwest—how delightful to listen to you speak about books and hear your suggestions! You have such a wonderful way of threading the story—presenting the books with your gentle, infectious enthusiasm. What a lovely interview, and what a treasure Huckleberry Books is to Cranbrook!🤗💗🌠
Very excited to see the surprise box Max and the girls pull together for me! Mother's Day is right around the corner and I can't wait to hear how Mom loves her parcel from our very own Huckleberry Books! Reach out - I understand Max likes to make surprise boxes of books and whimsy...your mother needs one too!
Friendly, knowledgeable staff, wide variety of books, games, etc. to choose from in a cheery setting. Perfect indie bookstore😍
Just read your Daily Townsman article and watched the video... your new store looks great Erin!! And of course Mr.Max is the final touch ;) Best of luck in your new location, I'll be sure to stop by when we make a visit back to Cranbrook this summer. All the best to you guys :)

Thank you, Lotus Books! Another amazing middle school novel in verse by Shari Green!
So it seems if we want a potential snow day, we just need you to schedule a Blind Date with a Book event. As I remember your February Date Night was accompanied by snow as well :) Hope last night went well for you!
