R.I.P. FRANK BEARD: Frank Beard, the longtime drummer for ZZ Top and a member of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, has died at age 77. Beard died while in hospice care at his ranch in Richmond, Texas, with family at his side; a cause of death has not been announced. A member of ZZ Top since 1969, Beard played on all 15 of the band’s studio albums and provided the signature groove behind classics including “La Grange,” “Tush,” “Sharp Dressed Man,” “Gimme All Your Lovin’” and “Legs.” Along with Billy Gibbons and the late Dusty Hill, Beard was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2004. Gibbons paid tribute, saying, “Today, Elwood and I lost a great friend and collaborator, and the world lost one of the most naturally innovative drummers and a great and true son of Texas. His signature backbeat was key to keeping ZZ on top.”
