Plant Teachings by Geraldine Manson a Snuneymuxw Elder offers a rare opportunity to engage with Snuneymuxw (Coast Salish) plant knowledge as it is meant to be shared: through relationship, respect, and lived cultural practice.

This recognition highlights the work, innovation, and resilience our staff, partners, governments, and community bring to tackling climate and energy challenges.

Winners will be announced at the Union of BC Municipalities Convention on September 16 in Vancouver.

Final product.

This is to represent the journey cvrd went on through the flood mitigation meetings.

They approached this not knowing the answers but knew they needed to build a team. They came into meeting with open hands, open hearts, open minds and just open to hear everyone's concerns and ideas. Along this journey of meetings and ideas the more people came aboard to offer thier knowledge. Kfn, farmers, ducks unlimited and many more. Filling the canoe with all the different interest groups. Long this journey together a community was built. A living community working together.

The first figure holds the salmon heads to represent the life source of the water ways.

Represented in the canoe is our k'omoks female paddle in red, our k'omoks mens paddle in the front, a kwakwaka'wakw style paddle as we are a nation that weaves the north and south together. And along side us is our neighboring community paddling together as one.

The coast salish style home has smoke coming out the top to represent the living community.
