Off The Loom

Off The Loom Off the Loom is my home based custom weaving business. We will work together to choose the colour, fibres and size that best meets your needs and budget.

It was born as a result of my love of rich beautiful colours, the feel and look of different textures and pattens plus the need to create. What better way to bring these together than in beautiful woven items that can be functional as well as decorative. I can make unique, one of a kind gifts, decorator items for your home, ring pillows for your wedding and much more.

It's been longer than I realized since I posted on this site. 2023 was a year of change for me. My grandson who had lived with me since 2015 decided to move to Edmonton leaving me with a large house. I had developed some painful back issues so keeping up the house and yard was impossible. I made the difficult decision to sell and move to an apartment. From January to the end of July I sorted, sold, donated and dumped (when necessary) much of the accumulation of 16 years. I sold all my looms. In April my sister and I did a river cruise from Paris to Zurich so I did have a 2 week break. I moved into my apartment in July, bought 2 smaller looms and tried to sort out my life. The three pictures are the sum total of my 2023 Fibre related projects. I have been doing more knitting as it's more portable if I travel. 2024 will, I hope, be more productive so stay tuned for more pictures

A few of my latest pieces. I have quite a few unfinished pieces that I’ll be posting soon. As the virus has us isolated and craft sales postponed or cancelled I have no selling opportunities in the near future. I will do online sales so if anyone is interested in these or future pieces please PM me at Norma Dean.

This beautiful cream coloured orlec warp will eventually become 13-14 eight shaft twill placemats. Our weaving group “The Woolie Weavers” decided our winter/spring project would be a placemat exchange. 13 members wanted to take part, thus we all have to weave 13 placemats. What a fun way to research and experiment weaving twill patterns. Stay tuned. I will post them as I weave them.
