Hey everyone, Chelsea Kincaide here. 👋

As a local business owner, event coordinator, and community member, I am so incredibly proud of how much our beautiful village of Coldwater continues to grow. Keeping our town vibrant, successful, and safe for visitors, while making sure it remains peaceful, organized, and a wonderful place to live for our local residents, is a true team effort.

But as community members, it is so important that we look a little closer at how that magic actually happens. Pay attention to who is truly behind the scenes, and take note of exactly who is funding and managing the exciting things that draw people to Coldwater. True community building doesn’t stop at our shop doors, on our Main Street or at your doorsteps.. it happens at the decision making table, too.

A quick reminder to everyone living and working in our area: this is an election year for the Township of Severn. 🗳️

It is time for all of us to start paying closer attention. Tune into the council meetings. Watch your councillors and track their actions. Take note of who is actively showing up to support our local economy, who is listening to the needs of our frontline merchants, and who is truly working in a modern partnership to move Coldwater forward.

Our community is powerful when we stand together, stay informed, and recognize the hard work that keeps our village alive. Let’s make sure we are holding our elected officials accountable for how they represent our home and let’s shape the future of our township together. 🤝✨

The Legion District ‘E’ Drumhead Service took place at the Coldwater Legion on Sunday June 7 at 1 p.m.

Here's some interesting info about Drumhead Services from Canadian Legion Coldwater Branch 270:

-----

Historically, Drumhead services were church services conducted "in the field" during armed conflict. For centuries soldiers requested divine help and guidance in what were known to be difficult times ahead. Due to remoteness of the battlefield and lacking any means of transport to take the soldiers to a church, the Regimental Padre conducted the services in the field.

This called for a platform upon which he could place his bible and other pieces of equipment he required to conduct a formal service.
Lacking any formal altar, regimental drums were put into service by stacking them in layers and draping them with appropriate colours, which then served as a temporary altar. It was in the 1700s that the first recorded use of the Drumhead for this purpose was documented. Like many things military, it soon became a tradition.

When Canada formed her first regiment in the 1800s, the practice was continued and still remains a part of Canada's military tradition. It was used not only for religious services, but also became the table for court martial hearings in the field.
Following the First World War, the British Empire Service League adopted the Drumhead Service in order to foster and keep alive a centuries' old tradition.
The Royal Canadian Legion continues this tradition today by conducting a Drumhead Service to pay homage to those of our comrades who offered their lives in defence of our country.
