Ebike fire safety is not just a sales pitch from your local bike shop. This issue comes up in the news every few weeks and a common factor is often that the brands aren't mentioned because there are hundreds of random brand names being stuck on random poor quality imported ebikes - and many of those brands are so small that their issues go unnoticed by safety organizations like CPSC. Now we see the largest of the "direct to consumer" ebike brands being named and potentially being forced out of business because of this.
Please people. Respect the fact that a typical ebike's battery is easily large enough to result in a fire that will consume your home. Part of what you're buying when you purchase "an expensive ebike" from your local bike shop is the battery technology designed to increase battery safety while also prolonging the battery life. This relates to both the specifics of the battery and also how much "juice" the motor is trying to suck out of the battery.
The number of owners of these random brand cheap ebikes we hear from expressing frustration regarding the unservicable nature seems to be increasing exponentially. Unless your goal is causing a large fire or owning an ebike that only lasts 2 years, please do your research and buy with safety and longevity in mind.
