While in most cases just tapping the clips into the wall angle is all that’s needed in some cases notching the wall out a bit for the clips will improve the shoe placement.
This horse has very round and wide feet, because we are shoeing with corks and an extended metal inlay we are a bit more limited in shaping. The shoe got already spread out by quite a bit but still isn’t wide enough between the clips. A size bigger would also mean longer and because of the extended metal inlay to support aggressive corks for sharp shoeing we are limited in how far we can grind the hind part of the shoe to fit the heel without exposing the metal inlay too much. Notching the wall a bit for this horse worked well.

Closing the Duplo up with hammer and anvil - We modified the regular steel horse shoe spreader available at Precision Canada ‘Le Czar’ by welding pins in different distances on each side of the head of the spreader to be able to shape and spread out Duplo composite horseshoes with an open metal core underneath the coffin bone. (Shoes with a ring shaped metal inlay can’t be shaped by it). With this spreader and your muscle power it is possible to symmetrical spread shoes out. This also shortens the shoe up quite a bit and can get the shape close to a straight toe shoe if needed, which can help to save the synthetic material in the back part of the shoe for support to fit the foot by using a smaller spread out shoe instead of removing much of the synthetic hind part of a bigger shoe that fit in width already. It is also possible to make asymmetrical shaped shoes (half wide half narrow or diagonal) by placing the pins offset to the metal core of the Duplo. The side of the spreader where the pins are able to get closer together will fit a 114/118 round shoe, you can spread out smaller size shoes with the handle of your shoe pullers. The side where the pins are further away accommodates size 146 and up depending on your muscle power. As more material on the Duplo of course as harder to spread it which is why bigger size shoes or draft horse size shoes (HDS) will eventually reach the spreaders and your muscle powers limitations.
