It’s a sad year for serviceberries at Hopeful Homestead. I have harvested barely 10% of what a normal year would bring. The good news is that it seems to be weather related and I have no reason to believe there is any issue with the trees.
For that reason, Serviceberry Jam will only be available either on our website hopefulhomestead.ca, at the or via the

I’m so sad to hear this happened at the Cape Breton Farmers’ Market.
Farmer’s Markets are more just a place to buy fresh food and artisanal products. They’re a core part of our communities, a gathering place and a wonderful way for up and coming entrepreneurs to start their venture.
Although I don’t attend as many as I used to, I have made so many wonderful friends from my years as a market vendor (including at this one at their old location on Keltic Dr) and discovered countless amazing small businesses.
The CBFM was struggling to begin with and this is a blow they really did not need.

Today was the first day of our 2023 dandelion harvest!
With tomorrow’s Sip and Shop Market in Margaree, you know I had to get some Jellied Sunshine 🫙done so that I could bring back the ever popular Charcuterie Sampler Packs🧀. These sold out in 2022 when we ran out of Jellied Sunshine☀️ but now they’re back.
I will have lots with me tomorrow at the Cranton Crossroads Community Centre. They have also been added to our website🛜 as well as the Cape Breton FoodHub.

After years of being asked “do you have a website?”, the answer is finally YES! 💻

My hope is that this website will act as a reliable location to get product information and recipes as well as to see which amazing retailers carry my products.

And of course, this website will now make it easy for those who live away to order a small piece of Cape Breton to be delivered right to their door.

Check out the new website at: https://www.hopefulhomestead.ca
