When we opened, our goal was simple: bring in fun, hard-to-find specialty candy—especially imports you couldn’t grab at just any store—and create a place that felt exciting, nostalgic, and happy for our community.
But over the last year, the costs behind the scenes changed dramatically. Because we import the majority of our candy, we were hit especially hard when Canada introduced 25% counter-tariffs in March 2025 on many U.S. candy and chocolate imports. Even beyond tariffs, the cost of candy/confectionery has been rising: confectionery was up 7.1% in 2025, and by December 2025, candies/chocolates were about 14% higher than the year before, driven by shortages and trade pressures. On top of that, a weaker Canadian dollar has made U.S.-sourced inventory more expensive.
We tried everything—absorbing increases, tightening margins, hunting for alternatives—because we never wanted “specialty candy” to turn into “unaffordable candy.” But with the current economy and the reality of landed costs, we reached the point where we can’t keep the business going in a way that’s sustainable.
