Hey everyone, a simple REMINDER. We Got The Beat, or WGtB as some of you know me, is NOT a RETAIL STORE in the conventional sense. I am a COLLECTOR, RESTORER, REPAIRER, RESELLER of great CANADIAN DRUM CREATORS, and a somewhat OBSESSIVE FAN of everything DRUMS, DRUMMING and DRUMMERS!

As many of you know, I absolutely adore meeting drummers from all walks of drumming life, and talking drums all day long, but VISITS are SCHEDULED, and not a "just drop by" kind of event!

I schedule meetups for days I set aside, so I can insure I'm not embroiled in making faded drums sparkle and shine once again, and ready for the stage or studio where they truly belong... that way you get my undivided attention!

This flagship line of Custom Drums from DW, are created using only the finest North American Hard Rock Maple, which proves to be the most popular for drum making, simply because it produces a maximum resonance, projection and attack!

These shells are made from DW's own 9-ply VLT shells, because in experimenting with different types of exotic wood builds, DW's CUSTOM SHOP discovered that in addition to the different tonal qualities inherent in every type of wood, alterations in grain direction greatly influence the sound. In DW's VLT Shell Construction, the outermost and innermost plies are run vertically, rather than the traditional horizontal configuration, and this creates much less tension on the shell, allowing it to vibrate more freely, which results in a lowered fundamental shell pitch. that means lots and lots of BOOM BOOM!

This shell pack is great for drummers looking for a lower tone, while still maintaining maximum resonance and attack.

There was an amazing pRAIRIE pERIOD in Canadian Drum manufacturing back in the '80s and into the '90s, when we had Canwood, Obelisk and a little company called EPEK offering up some pretty unique and cool items for lucky drummers everywhere! Of note... Ed Peck of EPEK, was creating some amazing little treasures in and around the Regina region back in the day, (and reportedly still does), and every time I come across one of his unique kits... I'm always taken by just how much unique things he was doing that really took a "step outside of the box" of drum making!

I just happened to acquire this stunning little kit this weekend... and like other kwhich sounds huge!!! 2 x 20"X12" bass drums; (can be used separately or in tandem with a unique mounting system used to tether them together-see pics). There is also 14"X12" Fl Tom, a 12"X 9", a 10"X8" tom and an 18 ply 13"X6" Snare drum... which is like a little cannon of sorts.

This kit happened to come with a RAY AYOTTE created TAYE DRUMS , 'AGED SUGAR MAPLE SOLID SHELL SNARE DRUM, which is a true powerhouse of tone, and very sought after... akin to a Craviotto type of steam bent shell, just more affortable pricing! I'll feature this more in a separate post on just it, but for now... enjoy the pics of this very cool early Canadian made drum treasure, and get to me with any questions you have about drums, drumming and drummers!!
