A little over three years ago my daughter asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. As I looked at her I realized she was serious, she wanted to know what I wanted out of life. My answer was honest but was accompanied by as many excuses as I could quickly come up with. I started to think about it, I thought about my excuses, my passions, what really matters to me and what do I want to be when I
grow up. I thought a lot about what I have to offer all of you and I slowly came to realize that what I have to offer is my passion and drive to change the world through a series of small steps. Now more than ever the choices we make at home have a huge impact on our world and our earth. Every time we make sure to remember the reusable bags, the reusable coffee cup or water bottle. Every time we stop at that cute little farm stand for some strawberries or to buy local honey we are changing the world by supporting small scale sustainable agriculture. We can choose to buy our produce and our meat directly from our local farmers. We can really take the buy local movement to a new level. At Small steps Soap Co. all of our products are not only locally handmade they are made with at least 75% locally grown, raised or sourced ingredients. Exotic butters and oils can be lovely to use, but more and more we are seeing the controversy regarding the sustainability of their farming practices, the horrible treatment of impoverished workers are coming to light. I know exactly where my ingredients come from. I talk with and meet the people who are growing and raising them, I have been to their farms. As we get going here I will introduce them to you as well. So now here we are, this may look like a giant leap but it is anything but. This has been thousands of smalls steps, a few big steps, a couple of bigger steps backwards and even some falling down. My daughter is still my biggest cheerleader and there truly is no better reward than that, not even changing the world.
